5.0 out of 5 stars More then good!
I picked up this cd at a concert where i saw them. Not only do they put on a wicked Live show, this EP is amazing! The Starting Line is a really really cool pop-emo band sorta like Saves the Day for those who are familiar.

All the tracks on this album are great- I can't even pick a favorite. The cover of Nothings Going to Stop Us Now is awesome. Leaving is a great...

3.0 out of 5 stars too much of other bands like NFG...
it's sad that Starting Line tries on this CD to be a kind of NFG Copy. their "own" songs they wrote earlier were real good, they had a lot of ska in it, very sad, it's not a bad CD, but the earlier ones are much better

Leaving is a great way to start the album off because its the most catchy and makes you want to listen to the rest of the album.

This is a awesome EP that will eventually lead up to their Full Length thats coming out this winter. Definately pick this up if you are a fan of Saves the Day, Jimmy Eat World, or Fenix TX. You wont be Disappointed!...

5.0 out of 5 stars Rocking from the start, April 24, 2003
This review is from: With Hopes of Starting Over (Audio CD)
As a die-hard TSL fan, it's expected that I'd love their EP - but even so, coming back to it after being in love with Say It Like You Mean It for the last year, it is still an amazing EP. The Starting Line has clever melodies, energy to spare, and lyrics that suck you in the more you listen to them. The songs are about universal things that everyone deals with - a friend leaving, an ex wreaking havoc, a beautiful memory.

"Leaving" is a great song with a catchy melody. You'll find yourself wondering when your "2-12-99" was. Saddest Girl Story - girls, this is the perfect post-breakup song. This was the song that originally turned me on to The Starting Line... and also got my disgusting ex out of my mind. It's an energetic tune with surprisingly insightful lyrics. Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now is a great cover.

Overall, though you can hear how the band has grown from here if you listen to Say It Like You Mean It, this is still a highly recommended EP.

By the way, if you ever get a chance to see TSL in concert, take it. They rock even harder live.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't wait for the full length to come out..., April 1, 2002
This review is from: With Hopes of Starting Over (Audio CD)
Being in the same genre of music as dozens of other bands, it would be easy to compare them to NFG or another band who is widely known. Of course songs may sound similar or have the same idea but what you should be listening to is the quality and potential. With this being their first release, I think The Starting Line is doing an awesome job. There isn't one song I don't love and I can hardly pick a favorite (although I would have to say its probably "Three is a Charm" or "Nothings Gonna Stop Us Now") I think the lead singer, Ken has an amazing voice and I honestly don't see a similarity between his voice and that of Jordan from NFG (as one reviewer commented.) Either way though, buy this CD!!! ... you can't afford not to.

Here's a little story for you all, regarding the time I discovered the starting line. I came home one day and threw myself into a frantic rush searching for the ringing phone then happened to find this cd underneath my roommate's bed. I then realized the phone had stopped ringing so I flung the cd in my computer and soon found myself grooving to some incredible lyricaly founded, intelligent beats.

Every single song on this EP will leave you salvating for more. My roomate never got the cd back and I am a happier, more musically satisfied enthusiast due to these five songs on which the higlight is undoubtedly all 5 songs, I feel stupid naming them all so we will just leave it at that. This is fast paced rock and roll at its unfinished finest.

5.0 out of 5 stars New favorite band, August 14, 2001

The first time I heard the starting line was on the drive-thru records website. I downloaded the mp3 "leaving" and my jaw dropped. The whole night it was on repeat. I did everything I could to find out more about the band and I found out the singer/bass player was only 17 years old, which is amazing. I bought their cd and went to see them live within the same week and they just ROCKED. I suggest you buy this cd ASAP.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing., July 1, 2004
This review is from: With Hopes of Starting Over (Audio CD)
This EP is absolutly stunning. Starting Line are one of the best in the pop-punk game, and this cd was their first to the world how good these guys are. Here the listing:

1. 'Leaving' - This song appears on the LP as well, but this is a more rawer feel to it. A very good song, and catchy. Kenny has such a good voice.
2. 'Saddest Girl Song' - Just like leaving, it makes a cameo in the the full length effort, which i recommend as well. And just like 'Leaving', this song is much more rawer then on the LP, nevertheless, just as catchy.
3. 'Three's A Charm' - The first single. Just like the rest of the album, this song maintains the catchyness needed.
4. 'Greg's Last Day' - This is my favorite track and one of my favorites of all time by tsl. Its about a friend leaving. I can relate to this more then anybody because i am an expatriat kid growning up in a different country, and every year, loads of my friends leave. The song is brillant the lyrics are amazing. It will leave you singing, 'Greg's last day is our last chance to be bestfriends. Untill you say, goodbye'.
5. 'Nothing Gonna Stop Us' - Having doing an amazing cover of the J.Lo track on the 'Punk Goes.. Pop' series, Starting Line cover yet another pop song. A very good cover indeed.

Overall, a very good debut, and im sure there loads more to come from these guys. They already have 1 full length out, an acoustic EP, and have another full length in the works. Watch out for these guys, they are going places.
