This little device sounded perfect when I read about it. The problem is that it is made to be as cheap as possible. The plunger tip is just molded plastic, so it tends to leak and is also hard to pull/push. If this product were made "right" the plunger tip would be rubberized or have an o-ring seal around it, like all decent syringes. Great idea. Poorly implemented.

The Hopkins MixMizer is an all plastic graduated syringe that provides 2 cycle oil measurements, provided by Hopkins, for 1 pint fuel/oil ratio's of 16:1, 25:1 32:1, 40:1, 50:1 and 100:1 it also provides 1 quart, ½ Liter and 1 Liter fuel/oil mix ratio's for 25:1 32:1, 40:1, 50:1 and 100:1. For larger volumes of fuel you just increase the number of times you fill the syringe with oil, It also provides ½, 1, 1-1/2 and 2 oz measurements and 0 to 60 cc measurements in 2 cc increments. It takes very little practice to get consistent measurements if you use standard syringe filling procedures.
I did note that the black marks on the syringe provided by Hopkins tend to provide a slightly oil rich fuel / oil mix. My thoughts on 2 stroke engines is that it's better to error a little rich on oil than lean since I would rather foul a spark plug than seize an engine. The plastic hose, nozzle extension, is handy to get towards the bottom of 1 quart oil bottles but it is not long enough to get to the bottom of larger oil containers. After using the syringe to extract oil from the bottle, with the nozzle on, I remove the extension to avoid an oil rich mix before injecting the oil into the fuel container. I have found that the MixMizer is a lot less messy than using a graduated cylinder or trying to use a measuring spoon since you are able to force almost all of the oil from the syringe. I noted that a few cc's of oil are retained in the tip of the syringe. Most of this residual oil can be expelled back into the oil bottle by cycling the syringe a few times. The only things that it doesn't come with are a cap to keep the nozzle clean and a zip lock bag to store it in.

Guarantees Fresh Fuel Mix,

This review is from: Hopkins 10111/6 MFG 2-Cycle Oil-Mixing Tool (Lawn & Patio)
This mixing tool always guarantees a fresh mix of fuel for your tools with two stroke engines. I've owned one for several years. Before I bought this mixing tool, I would make 1 gallon of fuel mix at a time and it would usually sit around in the can for months until it could all be used. The markings on the cylinder make it simple to get the correct mix very quickly and consistently and allows you to mix quantities from a 1/2 pint to probably a gallon. I make a pint of fuel mix in a 1 qt plastic measuring cup using fresh gasoline whenever I need it. A pint is usually good for 1 1/2 - 2 fills of my blower vac, string trimmer or chain saw, all of which require a 50:1 mix, which is typically what I need for the amount of work I have whenever I use a tool. Yes, it may take a little more time to mix a small amount of fuel whenever it is needed rather than mixing a gallon at one time but I know the fuel will always be fresh and provide the best performance. Also, there is one less gas can taking up space in my garage. This is a really convenient and inexpensive tool that you'll probably appreciate a little more every time you use it.
