Why Get a Tire Pressure Monitoring System?
Tires bear the full weight of your vehicle as you move down the road, and maintaining proper air pressure plays a significant role in protecting them from dangerous blowouts, preventing excessive or uneven wear, and maximizing overall fuel efficiency. But situated out of sight of the driver, tire pressure levels are all too often neglected. Nine of ten tire failures are caused by driving on under-inflated tires, and tires do not become visibly low until they have lost 40% of their air. Dangerous driving conditions begin when tires pressure is 25% low, which can be a recipe for disaster.

The Right TPMS Diagnostics for Towing and Professional Driving
The Hopkins 38100VA Towing Solutions TPMS makes tire diagnostics clean, easy and painless year-round, right from the comfort of the driver's seat. The system consists of a small programmable wireless enabled monitor, which, after being synched with sensors that attach to the valves on your tires, allows drivers to monitor tire pressure from a spot near the dashboard at any time. Six sensors are included, but the system is able to simultaneously monitor up to 24 tires with additionally purchased sensors, making the Towing Solutions TPMS ideal for nearly any vehicle or vehicle configuration, including RVs with or without towed vehicles, vehicles pulling trailers or boats, and vehicles greater than 38 feet in length.

Having four different memory positions makes the Towing Solutions TPMS system perfect for recreational and professional towing. Consider a common example--say you own a motorhome and tow a car when you travel. Program both the motorhome and car into memory position 1. As you drive, you're tracking all of the tires on both vehicles. Then you reach a campground and want to sightsee for a few days. Just touch a button and switch the unit to memory position 2--where you only have the car tires programmed. Instantly, the system stops looking for the motorhome tires and focuses on only the car's tires. Transfer the monitor to the car and sightsee with the added security of tracking your car tires. When it's time to go to the next leg of your trip, just switch back to memory position 1 and the system instantly reacquires the sensors for both the car and the motorhome. It's just that easy. The benefits also apply to trailer towing duties. Program your truck into memory position 1, and put the truck and your trailer into memory position 2. Your truck and your 5th wheel can go into memory position 3, and your truck and your utility trailer can go into memory position 4. No matter what you're wanting to tow, the Hopkins Towing Solutions TPMS will provide you with added safety and peace of mind.

The Two-Level Warning System: How It Works
The Hopkins Towing Solutions TPMS works on an easy to understand two-level warning system. Simply ensure that your tires are filled to the proper pressure*, attach the sensors to your tire valves and synch them with the unit's monitor. The system will use this initial, correct pressure reading as a baseline, subsequently issuing visual and audio warnings from your monitor when/if pressure drops to below one of two crucial levels. For example, when all of your tires are reporting normal tire pressures, the green light on the monitor face will be illuminated, but should any tire fall 12.5% below normal -- indicating that it is slightly low and should be filled at your first convenience -- the yellow light will flash and a beeping alarm will sound. Furthermore, if pressures fall to the dangerous level of 25% below normal or lower, a red light will flash and a constant tone will sound. At this point you should stop immediately and add pressure to the tires. To determine which tires need attention, simply open the monitor by touching the release button and the screen will flip open. The low tire(s) will flash and show you the exact tire pressure. On the face of the monitor you'll find a mute button to eliminate the audible alarm, but the yellow or red lights will continue to flash until the low tire pressure problem has been corrected.

Although the Towing Solutions TPMS' handy, easy to read, fold-up LCD screen provides comprehensive information on your vehicles tire pressure, it was also designed to operate in the closed position while vehicles are in motion. By closing the screen when mounted in the vehicle, driver distractions are minimized, while all around driving safety is maximized.

Key Features:
  • Monitor the exact number and configuration of tires that correspond to the vehicles you are driving and/or towing.
  • With four programmable memory positions there is no need to reprogram each time you drive and/or tow a different vehicle or trailer; just save different vehicle combinations for recall at the push of a button.
  • Wireless technology guarantees transferability of the unit; just buy enough sensors to monitor all the tires on all your vehicles and the portable monitor goes with you to whichever vehicle you are driving.
  • With the ability track up to 24 tires simultaneously users can monitor the vehicle you are driving, your towed vehicle or trailer, and any spare tires.
  • Works on small trailer tires, car tires, truck tires all the way to large RV tires between 10 and 150 PSI.

Product Description

Hopkins Tire Pressure Monitoring System is designed to help with the transmission of tire pressure sensors to the on-dash monitor. This system is perfect if you have a vehicle that is greater than 38 feet in length. Proper tire pressure is important for many reasons. Under-inflated tires will increase wear of the tire, reduce control of the vehicle, accentuate hydroplaning, reduces road traction, reduced brake performance, increases fuel consumption and adds to overheating of tires. Over-inflated tires reduces tire to road contact area, increases wear of the tire, reduces traction and vehicle control.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very dissapointed, April 29, 2010

G3 (San Jose CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hopkins 38100VA Towing Solutions Tire Pressure Monitor System (Automotive)
I read several reviews and was pretty impressed. But how come nobody mentioned the no-battery-replacement philosophy? Well, the first thing I noticed is no sensor battery replacement. Dead battery, buy new sensor. A few years (maybe 4?) from now, I get to spend about $250 to replace the sensors. Not likely - - either they come down in price or I buy a different product. User interface is okay, and the icons are mostly understandable except for the one that looks like a bullseye target. If it worked as advertised, I'd give it three stars. But that's only if the sensors ever work, which 5 out of 6 don't right now. I'm installing on a rainy day in a 27' Itasca. Only the right front wheel is reliable. Got one reading on left front and one reading on left rear, both of which disappeared immediately. Supposedly there's a repeater, but I believe they're about $100, and just one more thing to keep a steady power drain on the battery. The unit has its power cord poking ridiculously out of the front of the base. It's impossible to get a "clean" looking installation, it always looks as if it was just tacked into place. Why in the world didn't they put it in the rear with the antenna??? The base has no provision for attachment at all, so Velcro here we come. If I keep it. I'll call tech support tomorrow, but I'm not optimistic. This is a very poor start. Unless this thing works solid with no fuss (and no repeater), I'll return it and buy some other brand. So far, it's pretty disappointing. UPDATE: Had a very encouraging conversation with tech support, very helpful and friendly. They suggested using the antenna extension, which was sent to me for free. Nice try, only slightly better behavior and still flaky on all the rear tires. No matter where I put the antenna, sooner or later one sensor or another would quit. And this was just sitting in my driveway, no vibration or anything. I gave up and returned the unit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Peace of mind while traveling, March 20, 2011
This review is from: Hopkins 38100VA Towing Solutions Tire Pressure Monitor System (Automotive)
After experiencing a number of blow-outs on my RV and being surprised by a low tire that almost rolled my towed Jeep, I looked for a solution I could afford. I had no wish to go through the cost and time of mounting internal monitors, which greatly narrowed the field.

I settled on the Hopkins system and after more than 5,000 miles with them, I can say that they save me time & effort with accurate readings. If I hear or feel something strange, I need only look at the monitor to see if the tires have a problem. They give me peace of mind to drive long hours on the road without worry.

This is a "must buy" for anyone who spends long hours on the road. Between ensuring proper inflation to improve gas mileage and preventing costly repairs after a blowout, they have saved me far more money than they cost.

1.0 out of 5 stars A really bad experience., June 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hopkins 38100VA Towing Solutions Tire Pressure Monitor System (Automotive)
I bought the six sensor system and two additional sensors (8 sensors) for my truck and my travel trailer. First problem, the set up instructions are incomplete. A call to customer support cleared that up (they know the instructions are confusing). Problem two: One sensor went "Dead". Another call to customer service (press in on the sensor stem) fixed it for a while but it failed again. Then another sensor went "Totally Missing" as in Alarm! Pull Over! But the sensor was there and the tire OK. That sensor never worked again. By this time I really wanted to just reset the whole system and try to install it and all the sensors again but there is no Master Reset and removing the sensors and unplugging the console didn't reset them. When I re-plugged the console in it said it was reading the sensors and showing their air pressure but the sensors were in my pocket at the time. Hmmmm.... By this time I was only trying to get 4 of the eight sensors working on just my truck but the console was showing 2 sensors working, 1 sensor not showing any pressure at all, and 1 sensor location indicating the tire was missing. (Yeah, it really can do that.)

Because I had put off installing the system until we were getting ready to start our vacation the return window for the system expired so I'm out the full cost. I have ordered a "Pressure Plus 8000 Series" system directly from Pacific Dualies with overnight delivery. I hope it works better.
