5.0 out of 5 stars A good book for your rotations
This is a compact book following the same formula for the other manuals from this collection (Ex Washington manual). It is not a treatise and it is not intended to be so, quite the contrary. It is a pocket book, easy to carry and to manipulate. It cover all the topics you might need for your day to day life in the hospital in a short , but not too short, and up to date...

1.0 out of 5 stars an utter waste of time (and EXPENSIVE)
Do NOT buy the PDA version of this classic manual. The manufacturer shipped me a mismarked (wrong Operating System) shrink-wrap package with a warning that opening it would disallow a refund. The correct product had been mailed despite the mislabeling, but the convoluted registration process was time-consuming and produced an INVALID activation code. The purported...

I like the fact that you can read any chapter in less than 30 minutes. I recommend this book for medical students in need of a compact book to carry during the GOB internship or for revising topics before an exam.

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful for OB-GYN residents, March 17, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I think my entire class of OB-GYN residents bought this our intern year. I still use it now as a third year. It covers a lot of the information you can get pimped on, and explains it well. It is small enough to carry around, so those slow rotations, where you have 5-10 minutes throughout the day, this is a good resource. The only negative things I notice is that there is a lot of information, so you have to read instead of skim. And the book cannot fit into my white coat pocket. But definately one of the books I rely upon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Have for New RNs in Women's Health/L&D/Maternity Depts, etc., July 11, 2007
I'm a new Rn (13 months) working on the L&D unit at a large teaching hospital in Orlando, FL and I've been researching maternity nursing software for a new smartphone/PDA that I plan to purchase. The search lead me to the Skyscape website and this Johns Hopkins manual. Skyscape allows you to download a trial form of the software onto your pc so that you can view the product before buying. This is the 5th item that i've viewed today alone and I'm so incredibly HOOKED on the manual that I plan to buy it from Amazon immediately and purchase the pda software (though I am a little apprehensive about the software now based on reading the second reviewers comments on here). Anyways, I will be precepting a graduate nurse in a couple of weeks and I will totally recommend that she purchase this manual as well because it provides an AWESOME, EASY TO READ, TO THE POINT, description, instruction and medication treatment (dosage, side effects & contraindications) for EVERYTHING that I've encountered thus far on L&D - and I've only read the section on "Normal Labor and Delivery, Operative Delivery, and Malpresentations". I wish I had read this when I first started working on the floor because it would've provided a GREAT transition into this field of nursing from nursing school. The information provided is SHORT, SPECIFIC and VERY CLEARLY WRITTEN. Even though the manual is written for med students, it totally provides a great learning tool for nurses as well because it will help me with anticipating the need of the physician when providing intrapartum care on the labor floor, which in turn increases provision of effective patient care. A big THANK YOU to the authors ! :o))

This review is from: The Johns Hopkins Manual of Gynecology and Obstetrics (CD-ROM for PDA) (CD-ROM)
The purported SmartPatch fix also failed. Now, 6 days after paying for the product, it still doesn't work and the short East-coast technical support hours mean that MAYBE tomorrow, the 7th day after purchase, I MIGHT be able to use this product. Had this manufacturer been less paranoid about piracy, using a more standard serial # activation (like OTHER manufacturers), I'd be a happy customer recommending their product.
