4.0 out of 5 stars A great desktop guide for surgical pathology, July 24, 2001

This review is from: The Johns Hopkins Atlas of Surgical Pathology (Cd-Rom For Windows and Macintosh, Individual Version) (CD-ROM)
I have now use Dr. Epstein's CD-Rom based text and atlas for approxmately six months. I find it extremely helpful on daily surg path issues, and it often saves me from pulling Sternberg or Rosai off the shelf. The text provided is very brief but generally provides "what you need to know." This CD is lacking in two area. First, grading systems for most tumors is not adequately covered (although this is more of an atlas), and you will need to refer to larger texts or to the CAP's Reporting on Cancer Specimens (also highly recommended). Second, variants of lesions just can't be adequately covered (there is no competition for the AFIP series) for all of surgical pathology on a single CD. Where this CD-Rom shines is in ease of use (the search tools are great) and in the high quality photomicrographs. Overall, if you've got a computer near your microscope, then this CD should easily be worth the purchase price. I look forward to upcoming editions.
