5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth it... a must have for AR owners in my opinion!
Boresnakes, regardless of caliber, really do make the gun-cleaning process much faster and thorough. I've been using one for my Mosin Nagant and WASR 10/63 for quite a while now, and ended up buying this one for my S&W M&P15, along with an Otis kit. 1.0 out of 5 stars PIECE OF CRAP
Ive been a fan of bore snakes for a long time, but not for these viper ones. i used this in my Ar-15 (.223) and had it get stuck in my barrel. the pull cord is so thin it cuts your hand, and eventually it breaks. had to tie it to my work bench and pull until i ripped out. i like bore snakes, but not hoppe's new viper ones, stick with the first generation.

Boresnakes, regardless of caliber, really do make the gun-cleaning process much faster and thorough. I've been using one for my Mosin Nagant and WASR 10/63 for quite a while now, and ended up buying this one for my S&W M&P15, along with an Otis kit. This boresnake is high-quality... several copper brushes embedded in the front, hard plastic bore-guide to make it easy to pull through, and tight-fitting and absorbent weaved fiber to really shine the bore. I normally do a couple pull-throughs with my Otis bore brush (soaked in CLP), and then do 4 or 5 passes with the boresnake. You can run a patch through it afterward, and it is pretty well squeaky clean. Saves the time of having to patch the jags over and over again. If cleaning your bore is taking you any more than 5 minutes, get one!

awesome.. works as amazing as you would think. put some cleaner on the head and some oil on the tail and pass it thru a few times and the barrel becomes cleaner than with patches.

Works great, I like the Viper a lot for my AR 15 (.223). This other person talking about how its too tight, not sure what the problem is. Use a little muscle! You want to clean your barrel thoroughly, not polish it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazingly fast and thorough., March 11, 2011
Bought one of these for my .22 rifle and love it! I usually run it through two times, placing a drop of oil between the brushes and one at the end of the snake. After the second pass the barrel is clean as a whistle! Everyone knows how many rounds you'll put through a .22 in a plinking session. The bore snake makes clean up afterwards a breeze. Can't recommend it enough! The cord can dig into your hand, but if you wrap it around your palm it's not that bad. I've used mine atleast 50 times and it is showing no signs of wear or fraying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent gun cleaning tool, May 19, 2011

Great bore snake, Solid Construction, reduces cleaning time by about 10-15 minutes. I used it on my AR15 (.223) and my S&W M&P15 (22LR). While it was a tight fit at first, after about 3 pulls it slid through fine. It is excellent at removing all the build up inside the barrel.

1.0 out of 5 stars broke on first use, November 10, 2011

I've had good luck with boresnakes for .40 and 9mm handguns, so I eagerly bought this for my rifles.

I used it for the first time tonight, and the while the weight and lead string were narrow enough to fit down the bore (as opposed to others' reviews), the string snapped right off with the snake in the barrel. Complete failure!

Because I didn't have the good sense to go shooting and clean my rifles the day this got here, now it's not covered under Amazon's return policy.

Let me repeat: it snapped in two on the first try. It was a .22-.225 bore snake, and it was used on a .22 rifle. I pulled with slow and steady force. There was no user error. This item had a complete failure on its first use. I would not buy again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great time saver, August 25, 2011

It is a great product for quickly cleaning your barrel. It won't scrub the barrel as thoroughly as the old reliable brushes, but if you treat the barrel with a solvent (copper or powder) then you may get it as clean as a brush would. I know this will be my regular cleaning tool for my normal firearms.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great concept,, but it doesn't fit, April 13, 2011
So, first, let me say I love boresnakes and use them. This one simply does not fit in the caliber guns it says it will

I got the 22 caliber boresnake for my Ruger 10/22 and buckmark pistols, both 22LR. The weighted end is simply too big to fit in the barrel. Its not even just a tight fit, it won't fit.

Now, i've got to return it.
