5.0 out of 5 stars Its all that and a bushell sorghum!
A God-send to shooters! What used to be hours running patches through the bore has been reduced to, at most, 2 passes with the bore snake. I usually scrub with a brush first before I use the snake...this probably isnt necessary, but Im still in denial that gun cleaning can be this easy. I also like to put some Hoppe's on the floss. I highly recommend having a bore...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Product. Too Bad Its Not The One Pictured
I use the larger caliber BoreSnake product for my M44 Nagant and Kar98, and it works fantastic. Only thing it didn't have was that cotton bush at the end for putting solvent on it for cleaning. I could never find one that did - all the shows I went to had the BoreSnake without that bush on the end of it.

So when I saw this product, I jumped on it - this is...

So when I saw this product, I jumped on it - this is the one I've been looking for!

Of course, when I got it, I was dismayed to see that it was the exact same 10-15$ product I could buy at any local gun store, with no cotton bush at the end. Its just a standard boresnake, as pictured, but without that nice little cotton bush at the end.

I double checked the product description - nothing in there about the picture not being the same as the product. And that is honestly disappointing. I expected what I saw in the picture, and since the description didn't give me anything to contradict this, thats what I was thinking of when I opened the package.

I feel a bit ripped off - I could have saved myself 6$ shipping by just heading down to the local Big 5 and picking this up for about 12$. Nothing I can do about it - the product works as it needs to, and it still takes solvent, so I have no complaint about usability. I just wish that I knew what I was buying before I did it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for barrels, January 6, 2011
This review is from: Hoppe's BoreSnake Rifle Bore Cleaner (Choose Your Caliber) (Sports)
The Hoppes Boresnakes are wonderful for cleaning rifle barrels. I use this in my AR15, along with a little CLP, and it does a fantastic job. Simply slide the metal tipped end in from the bore out the front of the barrel, and then pull it through. The other end has several metal cleaning brushes sewn into the material. They slide down the barrel and clean it right up. Remember to always pull in the direction that the bullet travels (bore to muzzle).

5.0 out of 5 stars It is true, is like magic!, June 19, 2006
I used one of this to clean my 22LR bore and for my surprise the claims are true. It is truly amazing. One pass and the bore is mirror clean.

I still use my old rod to apply oil after the cleaning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyone that owns a rifle should have one. Make that two., January 26, 2010

This is a review of bore snakes in general... though I have them in every caliber I own, I first started using them with my .22 (including .223/5.56) guns. This is small enough to keep in any range bag or back pack. I keep it in a Ziploc with a silicon cloth (also Hoppe's) a toothbrush and some CLP. This is enough to do a good basic cleaning on any gun. You may want to do better when you get home with a proper rod, brush and jag. But, I only do this about every third range trip with my ARs and maybe once a year with my rimfire rifles. I don't like the pistol ones as much, simply because a short rod is easier to use than a bore snake, but a long rod? Bore snakes win hands down. I also don't like the kits that Hoppe's sell as you end up adding stuff and there isn't room in the kit.

Also beware of imitations, get a real Hoppe's. One will last me a year or so- that's 100s of trips down the bore- I had an imitator break off on its second use. You can find the Hoppe's cheaper though.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's clean!, August 4, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Pros:
- No more metal shavings from those cheap cleaning rods.
- No more 100's of patches.
- Easy to use, easy to clean.
- Durable!

Cons:
- Alert family that this isn't a dog leash.

I love this thing, I soon will be buying one for my 12 gauge shotgun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bore Snake? More like Bored Snake..., November 30, 2011

This review is from: Hoppe's BoreSnake Rifle Bore Cleaner (Choose Your Caliber) (Sports)
Do not purchase this product if you rely on hours of gun cleaning as your primary mode of entertainment. Since purchasing these bore snakes my cleaning time has been cut to a fraction of what it used to be.. And Now, I'm bored. I got nothing to do. So, to help pass the time, I have written a poem about Bore Snakes.

Ode To Bore Snakes.

Nows that I have Bore Snakes
Much less time to clean it does take
My day is boring, My soul is snoring,
And from my eyes, the tears they are pouring.

So now I don't know what to do with my life
My last resort may be to spend time with or talk to my wife
Who knew that buying these snakes would be such a huge mistake,
As this much change in my life I never thought these would make.

5.0 out of 5 stars BoreSnakes are Great Cleaning Tools, July 19, 2011
I got this to clean 30-06 and 30-30 caliber hunting rifles.

If you haven't used a BoreSnake before, you are really missing out. The combination of brush and rope-patch section are just great. They are washable and reusable.

I would really recommend these in all the calibers you shoot regularly. It makes cleaning a snap.

If you are curious how it works, you simply drop the little weight on the end of the black cord through the throat of the rifle barrel and catch it as it exits the muzzle (put it in back by the trigger and pull it out where the bullets come out). You then just pull on that black chord and the brush will enter the barrel with the soft rope following. I was a bit worried about the toughness of this black cord, but I can really pull it without any worries. Pull it all the way through and you have made the equivalent of one brush and patch pass-through. Do that a few times and then run a clean patch through and you should be just about done.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great, and at an excellent price., August 17, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
These BoreSnakes have been around for a while now, and it's such a simple design. It's an improvement on the old "pull-string" barrel cleaning methods that required the user to clean the barrel in separate steps RE pull-through the bore brush, then pull-through the cleaning patch. This BoreSnake does it all at one time. It's also good because it allows the user to clean his/her firearm from chamber-to-muzzle, which is preferable to cleaning from muzzle-to-chamber, which lessens the chances of pulling dirt/grime/etc. back into the chamber area.

One note - if using this 5.56 BoreSnake in an AR type rifle, you'll still need to clean the locking-lug area with a military type chamber brush because the BoreSnake can't clean that particular area. However, it does a fast and great job with the AR's chamber and barrel. A very worthwhile purchase.

Where a .223 bore brush was too tight for my Sig 556, the bore snake went right through it and cleaned it perfectly.
