This review is from: Hoppe's Refinishing Blue Gun Kit, Clam E/F (Sports)
Used this kit along with a separate purchase of Hoppes #9 oil to restore an HK USP barrel to near new. The barrel had very strong rifling but had lost all the finish to the bare metal. This was my first attempt at bluing gun parts.Other than covering machining lines, the end result was almost black after 4 cycles through the process. 1. Use the steel wool provided to buff the metal. 2. Wear gloves and use the degreaser to clean the metal 3. Use a hair dryer to heat the metal 4. Use the applicator to add bluing in an even pattern. Let sit for 3 mintues and it will begin to appear tarnished. 5. Rrinse with water (used an old Tupperware tank) and dry with a cloth. 6. Repeat the steps 4 times or more starting with steel wool polishing. 7. When finished with several cycles, rub metal generously with Hoppes #9 or comparable gun oil. The pre-oiled rags provided did not work as well on metal tested beforehand. Let the metal sit for a day or 2. Only 4 stars for this kit because the steel wool almost completely disintegrated after nearly 3 cycles.

Great Bluing Kit !,

This review is from: Hoppe's Refinishing Blue Gun Kit, Clam E/F (Sports)
I have a Browning T-Bolt .22 that my Dad bought for me in 1971. Needless to say it needed a re-blue job baddly. I looked online at several blue finishing kits and chose the Hoppe's kit. I am glad I did. The kit contains step by step instructions that work well and the bottles of both cleaner/degreaser and re-bluing would be enough for several rifles or shotguns. At first I was thinking how blochy it was looking during the process then after applying the oil they provided it really took off! Beautiful! No streaks or bloches at all, an overal very inexpensive way to re-blue yourself saving a lot of $$. I also used a hair dryer on low to speed up the drying in-between. One note to users...Be sure to get absolutely every scratch out using fine emery (if you have to) and the gradual sizes of steel wool before you blue. I did not get every little scratch out from my emery and I can see a few scratches here and there, but no one else would really notice them. That's only if you HAVE to use any such emery as I did. I am supper satisfied with the product, the price and especially the results!! Rick in Wisconsin
