This review is from: Horary Astrology Rediscovered (Paperback)
Olivia Barclay has played a crucial role in the rebirth of the traditional techniques of predictive astrology, lost with the decline of astrology following the Enlightenment. The rebirth of astrology in the 19th century came in the form of psychological or character based astrology with an admixture of Jungian archetypal concepts in the 20th century. While well suited for counseling or self discovery the ability to make specific, concrete predictions was lost.Horary Astrology Rediscovered relies heavily on the work of William Lilly, the 17th century English astrologer, most famous for his work in horary astrology. In horary astrology a horoscope or chart of the heavens is cast for the moment that a question is asked, rather than a chart of a person's birth place and time. Horary Astrology Rediscovered is an excellent introduction to horary astrology with clear explanations and many examples. Ms. Barclay gives examples of questions involving lost pets, relationships, real estate and many other interesting and useful topics. I would recommend this book highly to anyone interested in traditional astrology. It is particularly good as an introduction to astrology for students who know little about astrology and have an interest in learning how to make concrete and specific predictions. By beginning with traditional astrology one need not go through the painful process of unlearning modern heresies like Uranus ruling Aquarius, Neptune ruling Pisces, Pluto ruling Scorpio, orbs of aspects rather than planets, etc., etc. Traditional astrology (modern will lead you astray) is one of the three ancient occult arts and sciences with magic and alchemy. Useful on its own, it is integral to the study of occult philosophy.

The best astrological text in the 20th century,

This review is from: Horary Astrology Rediscovered (Paperback)
Although the title includes the word 'horary', this book is a good introduction to the old astrology as a whole. The author demonstrates the validity and beauty of traditional techniques, which were used by astrologers in the past. It took me a few years to understand the old methods, however, my ability at delineating charts has been improved by leaps and bounds - I was already a professional astrologer with ten-year experience though. The old methods were quite new and are really useful to me.This book is a must for serious students and professionals, and no doubt this is the best astrological text in the 20th century.

...for the professional as well as for the beginning student of the art.The book gives an excellent presentation of the dignities and debillities of planets in houses and signs. Also it teaches how to understand the heavenly bodies and their influence on different situations when they appears. As the author refer: "The heavens declare the Glory of God; and the firmament showeth his handywork (--Psalm 19:1)." There is also an introduktion to Mundane astrology.
