5.0 out of 5 stars Quality
I purchased this elliptical and found it to be great. It is very smooth and very quiet. It took about 1 hour to assemble it and the instructions were clear and concise. It has a lower step on height then most. It has an 18" stride that is very comfortable. I would diffently recommend this one. The quality is there.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great machine if it works...
I purchased the Horizon Fitness EX33 elliptical trainer in May 2006. I felt like I had purchased quality equipment and was very satisfied with the various levels and workouts to choose from. Unfortunately the machine doesn't work. I can turn it on and the display lights up, but nothing happens. Naturally the one year parts and labor warranty expired 5 months ago. I...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good elliptical, great customer service, November 30, 2006
This review is from: Horizon Fitness EX33 Dual Action Elliptical Trainer (Sports)
After my gym doubled their rates, i decided that i could put the money that i was dishing out every month towards owning my own equipment, so i started doing research. Now, i am used to using top of the line equipment, having been an infantryman as well as having membership in local gyms, and the only component i was concerned about in my home gym was the elliptical.
This is because i didn't have a few thousand dollars to shell out for a commercial unit, and would have to settle for a "consumer" grade unit. While i was researching, i was mainly looking for durability customer reviews..if the movement is a bit awkward or the stride to short, thats fine, you get used to it, as long as it is working you out. But comfort doesn't matter if the machine is broken right? However, the amount of information (i don't trust fitness review publications) i could find on consumer level elliptical trainers was frustratingly small, so i finally just took a complete shot in the dark and went with the EX-33, even though the reviews for it on this site looked a bit fishy as one reviewer pointed out.
After some shipping problems (not horizons fault) i finally get the machine, and assembly was a breeze until i got to a certain part that wasn't threaded properly (actually, not threaded at all). I was pissed, but it wasn't a problem because despite the experiences that others have had, customer service was fast, friendly, and sent me more then was required to fix the job, just so i would have a spare. So, i finally get the unit assembled. But if you are like me, you don't give a hoot about assembly or quietness or knee comfort, you want to know if the damn thing is gonna fall apart after you pay 800 bucks for it right?
Well at first, i thought i had made a huge mistake, because after 2 days of use the belt popped off and got chewed up a bit. Extremely angry, I took the case off to see what the problem was. Turns out the magnetic brake wasn't screwed all the way down, so it slipped. But this turned out to be a boon, because i noticed several important durability related things about this machine.
First, it uses a nice thick gauge steel on all its parts. Secondly, the inward component setup is very simple. Replacing parts and doing maintenance like tightening the belt are a breeze. Anyway, i called customer service for a new belt, they say no problem, and sent one with no questions asked. While i waited for the belt to arrive, i put the old frayed one back on, tightened it up, and started working out. The machine ran fine even with a busted belt.
And it does give a very smooth, suprisingly intense workout, and thats coming from someone who has had no small measure of experience with gym machines.
To sum it all up, it gives a great workout, even for people already in decent shape. The durability i think is fine, a very sturdy and frictionless magnetic break for resistance plus only a few more simple components is all there is to it. Even the non user assembled parts are easy to adjust and replace on your own. Now this isn't a good point in and of itself, but combined with the (so far) flawless customer support,
you don't worry about having to pay to ship it to a factory or have a technician come over if something goes wrong once the warranty expires, simply pick up the part you need and put it on yourself, this is durability in my opinion.
I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because of the original assembly error, but like i said, the great customer support almost completely negates that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Elliptical! Easier setup and very quiet., June 23, 2006

We did a good amount of research on this elliptical before buying it. Obviously the vast number of reviewers loved it, so we thought we'd give it a try.

We are so glad we did! We were a little intimidated when the giant box arrived on a huge delivery truck, but the assembly was actually pretty easy and straight forward. You can see they care how easy it is to assemble because they've inserted a couple of "instruction updates" into the manual to clarify some instructions that must have confused people. The best part about the assembly was that they put the little parts (screws, bolts etc) into seperate bags for each step. So there is a bag for step 1, another for step 2, etc. It comes with everything you need, even a screwdriver! Very easy, you will need two people though because of the size of some of the parts you need to bolt in.

Once we got it up and running we were very happy with the backlit lcd display (our room is kind of dark so this was great). The best part is that the unit is incredibly quiet! I was used to our old treadmill that sounded like a semi-truck. The eliptical barely makes any noise because YOU are the motor!

Overall, we are very happy.

5.0 out of 5 stars You can't go wrong here!, March 25, 2006
This review is from: Horizon Fitness EX33 Dual Action Elliptical Trainer (Sports)
I did a lot of shopping around before purchasing the Horizon Fitness EX33 Dual Action Elliptical Trainer. I purchased it on 02/21/2006 and my whole family loves it. It was so easy to assemble and it works perfect. It is quiet with a very smooth stride. In my option this machine is a cross between an elliptical trainer and a stair stepper so you get a VERY good workout. Speedy delivery as always by Amazon. I am SO very please with my purchase...worth every penny!!!

We use it every night because it's actually fun! It makes exercise a breeze and I would highly recommend this product. The other reviews and good warranty helped make our decision. GREAT.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Machine and Excellent Customer Service, March 11, 2006

Sturdy. Easy to assemble. Easy to operate. Doesn't hurt my knees like a treadmill. A slightly out of tolerance arm bearing was diagnosed over the phone through Horizon Fitness and a new part delivered in three days. Excellent!

5.0 out of 5 stars Man, what a workout!, June 21, 2006
This review is from: Horizon Fitness EX33 Dual Action Elliptical Trainer (Sports)
Okay, I fancy myself a bit of an exercise machine snob. Nothing but the best for me. (Yes, there was that unfortunate incident with the Tony Little Gazelle, but it was a mere slip of stupidity, nothing else!) When I started craving elliptical action after a year of power yoga, I did a tremendous amount of research (scouring all the Amazon reviews was a big help) and finally decided on this machine. It kicks my butt everyday. I am not looking to build any muscle, so I keep it on a 1 resistance, but even that is tough. I am jogging and sweating like mad. I agree with the lady who said this is much better than the Precor machine--it's quite a challenge. It takes some time to put together (this one hour crap didn't do it for us!) but it's worth it. Extremely sturdy and high quality. It's only been a week, but I am pretty confident that it will last. Highly recommended!!

Recieved 8 days after order was placed. Took my husband 2-1/2 hours to assembly, with minimal help from me. So far, and it has only been a couple of days, it has proven to be quality, sturdy, excellent buy for the money. We have 3 boys, and I'm not worried about them breaking this equipment. It has several programs to choose from, or customize your own workout. Nothing manual, everything is controlled electronically. Reads your heart rate on the handle bars. Fan is a nice plus with 3 speeds. There are holders for a book to read while working out, drink holder, and another ample holder. Manual says you can plug in music to play over speakers, haven't figured out where yet. Very happy with purchase and definately recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT machine for this price, June 3, 2006
This review is from: Horizon Fitness EX33 Dual Action Elliptical Trainer (Sports)
We did A LOT of shopping around and trying out different machines before purchasing this one. Delivery was speedy. Assembly took us under an hour and was actually pretty easy. This elliptical is very quiet and doesn't take up a huge amount of space in your room. It has a nice variety of programs available. My husband and I both use it daily and very much enjoy it. Great machine for this price.

5.0 out of 5 stars A GREAT WORKOUT!, April 26, 2006
This review is from: Horizon Fitness EX33 Dual Action Elliptical Trainer (Sports)
When we received our EX33 Elliptical Trainer, I was afraid of how long it would take for us to put it together. Low and behold, it only took a little over an hour. The instruction manual was so precise and detailed in every aspect, it was a pleasure. It is also so nice and compact and fits perfectly in the corner of our family room. Now for the workout feed back... All I have to say is WOW! I use to be a gym rat (before my 3rd baby), now I just don't have the time to get there. I've always used the Precor Elliptical trainer at the gym and let me tell you, this one BLOWS it away! What an amazing workout it gives me. Because of how ergonomically built this machine is, it really isolates & targets your lower body (and upper if you use the arms). You don't come off this machine being sore in your hips, knees and ankles like you do with most other Ellipticals. I give this machine an A++++++++++ and highly recommend it!
