4.0 out of 5 stars Good Buy
The wife and I have been looking to purchase an affordable elliptical for about 1 month. We went to several mass merchants and sporting good stores and tried several brands. 3.0 out of 5 stars Worked well until it didn't
I purchased the Horizon Fitness EX22 in December of 2006 from Amazon and used it regularly for the first year (perhaps 2-3 times per week) and less frequently after that.

Recently on a renewed exercise kick I decided to use it again more consistently, however the screen displayed the error code "EP 101".

I called the company and inquired about...

The wife and I have been looking to purchase an affordable elliptical for about 1 month. We went to several mass merchants and sporting good stores and tried several brands. For the price we decided on this Horizon EX-22. Granted it does not have all the extra goodies but for our needs it is perfect. The machine operates smoothly and seems quite well built. I weigh 250lbs and the machine does not rock or feel unsteady at all. We really liked the Schwinn model but it cost almost twice as much. The item came damaged and Amazon was great to deal with and had our replacement in 2 weeks. The machine was real easy to put together because the instructions were easy and the parts were packaged by each step. It even came with all the tools needed to assemble. We are pleased with this machine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Value, March 3, 2006
This review is from: Horizon Fitness EX22 Dual Action Elliptical Trainer (Sports)
I was originally looking around at the "health club models" like Precor, but came to realize that I wasn't going to spend 50 hours per week on my elliptical, so after reading up a bit, went with the Horizon EX22.

For those looking for tons of options, this probably isn't the machine for you (maybe the 33 or 44 would be better), but I'm just looking to do one or two different programs for 30 minutes about 3 times per week. For the price, probably not a better value out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Workout, February 24, 2006

I was hesitant ordering an elliptical online. I had tried so many at the stores and found the front drive to be the best fit and range of motion for myself. I am very pleased with this horizen model! It went together very quickly and is a solid machine. The first few times I felt my arms were short for the handles in motion but now have gotten used to it and get a GREAT workout. I encourage anyone who is considering this model to go for it. You will not be dissappointed!!!

I bought this Elliptical for my home gym and I am very happy to say that it met my purpose. Very simple but powerful machine. Shipping took a while as I ordered free shipping. Assembly took about an hour and was a breeze. The best part of the elliptical is that it makes very little noise.

Highly recommended if you are looking for a basic machine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Customer Service..., December 6, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I purchased the EX22 a few weeks ago and am overall, very happy. Delivery was fairly quick, considering it was freight and over the Thanksgiving holiday. The elliptical was very easy to assemble, but due to a few minor defects, it rubbed on the plastic when going in reverse and the right pedal made a clicking sound. I called Horizon customer service and they helped diagnose the problem, ordered parts and sent someone out to install the new parts. The machine is now working fine and I am very happy with it. It has a somewhat compact design compared with other ellipticals I looked at which is perfect if space is a concern. The only thing I am not thrilled with is the loud chirping the electronic console makes when setting a program. It is very annoying. Oh, and I wish I would have known this was going to be a part of the Amazon Customers Vote promotion BEFORE purchasing the machine--oh well, that's life!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Machine, December 9, 2006
This review is from: Horizon Fitness EX22 Dual Action Elliptical Trainer (Sports)
I have had all types of exercise equipment - most all of them given away to charity. Not this one! This machine rocks! I work out with a fitness trainer 3x's a week and use their elliptical machine so I am in pretty good shape. The EX22 kicked butt the first time I used it. It doesn't have all the bells & whistles of some of the other ones but it does what I need it to do. It is a good solid machine and is more compact than the ones that I have seen in gyms around town. The EX22 has wheels on the front for easy moving. I have mine in the family room so I can watch TV while I exercise. You won't be disappointed!

I was also one of the lucky ones to get this machine for $200 through the Amazon holiday promotion. However, after using this machine, I would have gladly paid the normal $600 price.

This machine is whisper quiet and is close to the same quality of gym machines. Of course it doesn't have as many work out programs or resistance levels as the commercial versions, but the core of this machine is heavy duty.

It was relatively easy to put together and the manufacturer included all the tools needed (even a screwdrewer). This is a heavy machine so don't expect to be moving it around a lot.

As an owner and user of several expensive exercise machines, this elliptical is a bargain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy in setup and use, December 28, 2006
This review is from: Horizon Fitness EX22 Dual Action Elliptical Trainer (Sports)
I was one of the lucky ones to get it for $180.00 with the amazon coupon and it was a steal. It was shipped out and not due to get to me till the 29th but i actually got it by the 22nd. Great surprise since it ws my christmas.

My husband is pretty handy so he had it put together in about an hour maybe a little less. However, it is heavy so I would definatly suggest putting together near where you want it to be at.

As for the use of it, it is great. Only had a chance to use it a couple times with the busy holidays but it runs extremly quiet for a machine of its size. In addition, it runs very smooth. There is no jerking in the movements when using it. I have it setup on carpet and there is no wobbling at all it is very stable. There are only 6 levels of intensity however i set it at #6 and I believe it will be awhile before this is a problem <grins>.

I would gladly pay the regular price on this machine now knowing how great it does. And for anyone that has a hard time with tredmills this is the way to go.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly sturdy, and great for shorter people, January 18, 2007
This review is from: Horizon Fitness EX22 Dual Action Elliptical Trainer (Sports)
Admittedly, I did get this elliptical for super-cheap during Amazon's Customer Vote promotion, but the quality really impressed me. It is much more sturdy than I envisioned for a home elliptical, and I think it is even more comfortable than the ones at the gym (I am 5'1", and the proportions seem to suit me better). My 6'+ husband has also used the machine. He doesn't go all out, because he doesn't want to break it, and the resistance doesn't go as high as he'd like, but he still gets a pretty good workout out of it. My only complaint is that the heart rate monitor doesn't seem to work well at all. That is a minor problem if you have a little experience at the gym to know how hard you should be working. Also, it would be nice if the EX22 had a bookstand, but I think you have to get the EX33 for that, and I wasn't willing to pay the difference for that little feature.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Elliptical for the Money, January 16, 2007
This review is from: Horizon Fitness EX22 Dual Action Elliptical Trainer (Sports)
I wasn't sure about ordering this elliptical online but for the money ($200) I just couldn't pass it up. So glad I didn't!! This is a well built machine, surprisingly quiet and stable. It took less than an hour to assemble and very easy to use. Perfect for a beginner, like me. Even though this is supposed to be low impact, the motion sometimes hurts my knees (arthritis) but warming up and stretching beforehand reduces this problem.
