4.0 out of 5 stars Terrific treadmill, quality on approaching professional ones, great value
Treadmill itself:
Pros: Great build, high quality heavy metal frame, well cushioned and spacious tread area, inclines well, VERY quiet (I was very surprised). Nice safety stop feature with magnetic clip you wear; if you fall, etc., it stops IMMEDIATELY, not just slows down. Belt area seems to be well designed, few places I could see where little fingers could get...

versus
1.0 out of 5 stars 1 year parts only warranty for a reason! poor design
I've owned a Horizon Fitness treadmill similar to this model for about 2 years. In that time, I've had the main board "pop" and blow out 3 time! And the motor burn out once... always "just after" the 1 year parts only warranty had expired.

Now to their credit if you want to call it that...Perhaps because I had downloaded their troubleshooting tech manual...

Belt area seems to be well designed, few places I could see where little fingers could get into trouble, better than other treadmills I've seen. Built-in fan seems silly, but actually works fairly well.
Cons: Doesn't fold up into completely like other treadmills I've seen (belt area hangs down at around 70-75 degrees rather than 90 degrees), I pretty much keep it down all the time as a result. Cupholders while nice and wide are fairly shallow. That being said, I don't use/need them, just commenting. Have to power it off at base of motor, at front. Awkward to reach if you have it facing a wall as I do.

Can't comment yet on long term reliability, but comes with a very good warranty and seems to be incredibly well built.

Assembly:
They include all the necessary tools, first and foremost is an extra long Allen wrench. Didn't need any other tools. Pretty much just need to attach the arms and posts to the already assembled motor/belt area, then attach the console. The console is all plastic (no biggie), but was a bit of a bear to attach on because it seems to be precision fit. Don't know if one of my holes was just a bit off. However, I was able to put it all together by myself (I'm sure easier with two people) in about 40 minutes. Aside from the console, it was a breeze.

Packaging & Shipping:
Very well packaged, which is important as it looked like it went through a lot to get to me. If you get the same company (Eagle) I got for Amazon to send it to me, beware. They aren't very prompt, will call you after it gets to a local center and arrange for a date. I understand the need to do so, but they couldn't/wouldn't deliver mine for another week even though we had someone home everyday. Then they would only drop it in the garage. Much too big for one person to move; however, once installed, can be wheeled around relatively easily by one person (get a ramp I guess), though I wish the wheels were slightly larger.

Overall:
Despite not being happy with the shipping, I am well pleased, great value on a treadmill that really seems to probably retail over $1200 as advertised (often this is not the case and inflated). If you have been doing your research, you know it's important to get a high quality one that will last a while, and the magic cutoff seems to be around $1000. I'm glad I paid much less than that with free shipping; a look on the internet shows Amazon has the best price by far especially if on sale, Goldbox, etc.. Treadmill itself gets 5 stars, 4 overall because shipping was not usual Amazon standards and did NOT ship by 2 day Amazon Prime.

Will update if I have any problems, new insight, or (shudder) have to initiate warranty service. Until then, no news is good news! Hope this helps.

5.0 out of 5 stars If your looking for a great treadmill at great price... you found it, October 24, 2007
This review is from: Horizon T73 Treadmill (Sports)
I don't ever write reviews, but this time I'll make an exception. This is a great treadmill. I've purchased 3 other treadmill from local stores (Sear... Kmar... Wal...) trying to save some money and keep it around $500 and returned every one. too noisey or rickety. A year has passed and thought I'd give it another shot. Looked at the reviews and went with this one hoping that it would be sturdy and quite as promised. OMG, it is a beautiful machine. did have a slight problem, when it was delivered, the box was ripped open on the corner and the protective cap on the back lag was busted off. I emailed Horizon on their web site and they are shipping me out a replacement out this same day. That's great customer service. But the actual treadmill is wonderful. Nice long platform for a good stride without feeling you're going to fall off.... and quiet. If your looking for a great walk (or run) at a decent price, this is the way to go.

Update:4/18/08 Still in love with this machine!! Took me a while to actually get my lazy butt off the sofa and use this thing on a daily basis but have been using it every day for a month now. it's great!!!! We pop in a dvd and I spend the first half of a movie walking... this machine is quiet enough that it doesn't disturb the others who are also watching the movie!! Very happy with this investment... plus my butt is looking better in those (soon to be) skinny jeans! :)

UPDATE: 5/1/08. STILL LOVE IT!! Not a daily exerciser but I alternate this with my Wii for my workouts. Instead of doing a fast walk at 4mph, I lower it to 2mph and crank up the tilt to a 12% grade. Let me tell you, I start sweating like I was running at 7mhp... I've even found a few games I can play on the Wii while walking on the treadmill. Still runs as sturdy and quiet as day one. Best investment I've made.

I received this, damaged in shipping. When Amazon told me either return it (it's huge and heavy and the box has to come apart to put it together) or contact Horizon, I emailed Horizon. Within two days, Horizon sent needed parts and in less then a week they had someone come to my house and repair the treadmill. The treadmill works great!

5.0 out of 5 stars Horizon T73 Treadmill, December 3, 2007
This review is from: Horizon T73 Treadmill (Sports)
This is the first treadmill that I have ever bought and after many weeks of reasearch I finally decided to go with this model. It had the best warranty on the motor..which through research I learned is very important and has a large deck for running and is wide enough that you don't feel like you are going to fall off or feel crowded...just an over all great machine for a great price.

Although this treadmill was very heavy, my husband and I managed to carry it up the stairs to the second floor. This was very easy to put together...it took my husband only about 20 minutes to put together.

I mainly use this for running and have been extremely happy with this purchase. The treadmill has very nice features, cup holders, fan, different programs to choose from, and most importantly is easy to use. I would highly recommend this treadmill for any one who is looking into getting one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value, December 8, 2007

We recently purchased this treadmill and are very happy with it. It is pretty heavy, but two people can manage to move it to it's designated location. Assembly was pretty easy, again having two people makes it go faster. They also give you all the necessary tools.
I'm a runner and my husband is a walker/jogger and we both have enjoyed using this treadmill so far. The track is just right so you can do a comfortable stride and the controls and programs are easy to use. The fan is nice to have as well, but on more strenuous workouts you might need to put a box fan in front if you need more of a breeze.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic treadmill, January 3, 2008

Our treadmill arrived today and I couldn't be happier. Our previous treadmill was a NordicTrak and lasted almost 6 years. We put a pounding on it (almost 1300 miles) so any treadmill will get a lot of use in our house.

First off. This sucker is heavy. It came well packaged, but it was pretty beat up in shipping. Rips and gouges in the box made me nervous and had me wondering what this thing went through to get here. Delivery speed was good. Ordered Christmas Eve and delivered a couple days ahead of schedule. The freight company called and said it would be in their hands on Thursday and they could deliver the same day between 2 and 4. I said great and it showed up at 1:30. The driver pulled it out of the truck with a power dolly and had it sitting on a pallet. He hauled it to our garage and then the fun began. We got it in the door and then slid it across the floor using towels. Unless you have a 3 big guys around, don't plan on you and your wife being able to pick this up.

Once in the basement, set up took all of 45 minutes. There were a total of 12 bolts to install...that's right...just 12. 4 for the masts (verticle arms to console) 4 behind to secure the console to the masts and 4 more to secure the arm bars to the masts. The console took the longest to install. They were kind enough to have the electronic snap from the treadmill through the mast aleady located and secure so you don't have to spend a lot of time fishing for the electronic brain the mast to connect to the console. I had originally overtightened the masts to the base which made the console not line up...simply loosening those bolts solved that problem. Once it was put together, it was time to plug it in and give it a whirl. Once on the big orange screen lit up and away we went.

It's important to note that the safety key on this unit is nothing more than a magnet that secures itself to the console. A neat idea, but perhaps more prone to coming off if you accidentally touch the string while working out.

The unit claims to have 8 workouts. In actuality it has well over 50! How so you ask? Each of the pre-programed workout has 10 levels. That's right, 10 levels per workout. So the weight-loss program has difficulty settings from 1 to 10, as do the golf, interval, hills etc. Very, very nice!

It is also whisper quiet. I no longer have to jam up the mp3 player to avoid hearing the treadmill. On a simple level 10 setting on my Zune, I can not hear the treadmill or myself running on it.

The console itself is great. Plenty of large places to store your electronic devices and water are provided on the console and orange backlit LCD is really easy to see.

So far the only downsides I see is the inability to input your age into the machine to better calculate calories burned. A 25 year old doesn't burn the same amount of calories as a 50 year old doing the same workout, so I'm not sure how it is actually calculating the calories burned. The other downside is the heart rate monitor. Although my other treadmill didn't work very good with this feature, this newer one seems to fall short as well. Although I've never really relied on them, it would be nice if they worked a little more consistently.

All in all, after spending an hour on it and doing just over 6.5 miles, I'm very, very pleased.

We took some time to assemble it because the instructions were a little vague. But once it was done, it worked exactly as it was supposed to and we love using it!

I have owned the unit for over a year and it works great. A bit noisy, but nothing terrible. I have had no problems and I feel it should last for many more years. A good buy.
