5.0 out of 5 stars delicious- but don't buy it here
Fabulous product- very yum and convenient= however, $25 for a case is highway robbery. If you have a whole foods near you- it's 5-7 dollars cheaper by the case, and 2-3 dollars cheaper even if you purchase individually.

This review is from: Horizon Organic 1 % Low Fat Milk, 8-Ounce Aseptic Cartons (Pack of 18) (Grocery)
Horizon has been boycotted by the Organic Consumers Association and is the target of frequent complaints filed with the USDA because of their poor track record with regard to compliance with organic standards. Since they were bought by 12-billion dollar mega-corp Dean Foods, a large percentage of their organic dairy has been produced at factory farms, some with upwards of 10,000 cows.

I recently started a blog about this subject because it irritates me on a personal level. See my blog for more information and links regarding Horizon Dairy products: [...]

1.0 out of 5 stars Why Pay for Horizon Organic When It's Not, June 2, 2008
By
This review is from: Horizon Organic 1 % Low Fat Milk, 8-Ounce Aseptic Cartons (Pack of 18) (Grocery)
Horizon is a company that masquerades as organic but really has no interest beyond profiteering on the organic label. Horizon, owned by the giant Dean Foods, is one of those jolly come latelys to the organic food business only to make a buck and to skirt as many restrictions as they can. Read up on this as much as you can - the more you learn the more you'll avoid this brand at every opportunity. Read up on a lawsuit with the FDA that the current administration has turned a blind eye towards -- just google cornucopia and Horizon. Real family dairy farmers say most organic dairy brands play by the rules but not Horizon. Observe their claim about family farms in the public relations product description above and then check out this picture of one of their "animal friendly" farms - just google fagundes and cornucopia -- what lovely pasture these cows have to enjoy. What crime did these cows commit to be put in the stockades like that? The only crime I see is that this milk is allowed to be sold at the organic price draped in pastoral imagery. Why take the chance? Buy local organic milk or another brand that you can trust. Look at this Dairy Report Card -- just google Dairy Report Card and cornucopia - to see how your favorite milk labels stack up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Product But Expiration Date at Amazon is Way Too Soon!, June 21, 2010
This review is from: Horizon Organic 1 % Low Fat Milk, 8-Ounce Aseptic Cartons (Pack of 18) (Grocery)
I was happy to see that Amazon offered Horizon products. However, the expiration date on my purchase was "right around the corner" and I had to throw out some of the drink boxes. I would appreciate if Amazon could list expiration date on the site. Then I would gladly purchase here again.

My son loves this milk and we can take it anywhere when we're traveling. I also pack it with his lunch and it's a great alternative to juice and soda!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Tasting!, April 26, 2007
This review is from: Horizon Organic 1 % Low Fat Milk, 8-Ounce Aseptic Cartons (Pack of 18) (Grocery)
I tried this milk for the 1st time at Panera Bread. I was a little skeptical having never tried "organic" milk before. This milk is unbelievable! Not only does it taste fantanstic but it does not have to be refridgerated so it's perfect for the sack lunch. I would give it 10 stars if I could!!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best products out there, August 11, 2007
This review is from: Horizon Organic 1 % Low Fat Milk, 8-Ounce Aseptic Cartons (Pack of 18) (Grocery)
Most regularly packaged milks are NOT UHT treated-- that is "Ultra-High Temperature." Much like Pasteurization or autoclaving, this sterilization treatment significantly extends the life of the product by increasing the time it takes for bacteria to grow in significant quantities in the milk (the bacteria is what makes a warm bottle of milk "go bad"). The difference is these do not require refrigeration to prevent spoilage. These are bottled to be portable and durable, not just consumption. We use them for our daughter's lunches, trips, and general snacks.

It is true at $1.22 per bottle, the cost is ~20 cents higher than you can get at other locations--i.e., the cases are ~$16 at Costco. Still, for those of us that live in remote/rural locations-- it's a really good deal for doorstep delivery.

5.0 out of 5 stars Horizon Organic Reduced Fat Milk, 8-Ounce Aseptic Cartons (Pack of 18), September 23, 2008
This review is from: Horizon Organic 1 % Low Fat Milk, 8-Ounce Aseptic Cartons (Pack of 18) (Grocery)

I was delighted when Horizon came out with Aseptic carton milk. We live in an area that is subjected to frequent thunder and ice storms. We lose power regularly. The shelf life of aseptic carton milk is about 4 to 6 months...so keep a couple cartons on hand and rotate them as needed. The flavor is excellent. It's hard to make pancakes and eggs without power but at least a bowl of cereal is doable with this product.

Horizon Organic Reduced Fat Milk, 8-Ounce Aseptic Cartons (Pack of 18).......as i am homebound,to make life easier, i was going to order, however, a pack of 18 8oz containers equates to 144 ounces which equates to 1 gallon and 1 pint......paying $22.oo for a bit over a gallon for milk.....i think not....
