1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible
This album is just awful. In no way are the songs actually songs. No melody, bad songs, and just a really bad album. It's almost as bad as "Nights Like These" or the new Poison the Well CD. Just awful. How the hell can little emo kids listen to this? I like heavy music... not debating this is heavy or not, I'm just saying it's like they put NO effort into ANY songs...

4.0 out of 5 stars Legendary, October 9, 2008

There are hundreds and hudreds of great metalcore/deathcore bands out there, but after listening to Parkway Drive's 1st and latest album, they are nothing short of Legendary (in my eyes) of this genre. The only band I see even coming close to being so brutal with their breakdowns is The Acacia Strain, but even so, have nothing on these guys making the most aggresive music I have every had the privelage to hear. Every song on this album is pure eye of the storm leading all the way up to its last, 'and most epic', song Horizons. Any brutal metal fan will definantly appreciate this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beyond awesome!!, May 16, 2010
This review is from: Horizons (Audio CD)
One of my fav albums of all time, Period! They know how to make excellent songs with sick breakdowns and ridiculous guitar riffs. I cannot wait for their next album. I still listen to this album 3 years later, almost everyday. This album will never get played out, I can listen to it over and over again. This album no doubt gets me pumped everytime i listen to it! This is a must have album! So buy it and preorder the next one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh, to be buried beneath the moshpits these songs will create!, January 15, 2010
This review is from: Horizons (Audio CD)
Although I'm new to Parkway Drive and cannot compare this to any of their other releases, on its own "Horizons" is a great metal album that comes brutality with beauty. While there is almost a countless amount of metalcore/deathcore bands out there, some crazier and more experimental than others, Parkway Drive is still able to make a name for themselves to me. Although they're not as wacky or experimental as other extreme-metal bands of the past couple of years, they do a fantastic job at serving up a standard issue of crushing riffs, beautiful melodies, demonic vocals and insane drumming. What I do love about the band, though, is their B-tuning. Whereas many bands use C-tuning, I definitely prefer the tuning on this album because, as a young musician myself, B-minor is probably my favorite key to write songs in; it can be both heavy and beautiful at the same time.

In a little under 40 minutes, the band shows you just what they got. The 50-second intro, "Begin", starts off with a slow, majestic guitar line that eventually gets complimented by a fast snare-drum rhythm. And I'm not gonna lie, it's a hot drum beat! Of course, the band also shows how flawlessly they combine brutal metal with catchy melodies, such as in the second track, "The Siren's Song", or "Boneyards", a huge-sounding, three-minute headbanger of a masterpiece that might just be my favorite song off the entire album...I can never listen to it just once!

In addition, the band is able to take it one step further. Whereas the previously mentioned songs combine brutality with beauty, songs such as "Five Months" and "Idols and Anchors" have absolutely gorgeous melodies that you can't overlook, even with the heaviness still present. Even "Moments in Oblivion" a song that isn't even a full two minutes, has so much quality in it, it's surprising that the song as is short as it is. Finally, closing off the album is the five-and-a-half minute "Horizons", the "epic" of the album, if you will.

If I had to pick a least-favorite song off the album, it would be "Feed Them To The Pigs". It's not a bad song at all, but the B flat-tuning is mostly the reason why, instead of the B-tuning used on the rest of the album.

Anyway, "Horizons" is a great metal album that has the ability to both instigate brutal moshpits, and conjur up beautiful images in your head, at the right moments. Any album that can do that and still be as true to the music as it is definitely gets five stars in my book. Highly recommended! Thanks for the time, and peace.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real Look into the lives of Parkway Drive, December 9, 2009
I already had the Horizons CD, so I wasn't to excited to see the band was re-releasing the CD with a DVD. However, I saw a few pieces of the DVD on Youtube, and thought that what I saw was worth a shot. I'm not going to speak about the CD too much here, since it's been out for quite sometime now and you can read plenty of reviews on it elsewhere.

I was surprised at how good the DVD was. The DVD has an hour long documentary which shows the roots of the band - all the way back in Australia when they were just some kids playing for their friends in a basement. The DVD follows their journey from a no-name band, to working with the legendary Adam D., to touring Europe with no one in attendance, all the way to present day after their first sold-out, full length American tour. You get an inside glimpse of what is like to hang out with these guys at home and on the road. (They are funny!) By the time the documentary was done I felt like I knew the band, and wanted more. Thats when you get the blistering live concert. For another hour you get to see Parkway Drive at their finest, doing what they do best - playing a killer show. The live show sounds just as good as the CD, and these guys are powerful on stage. I've already gotten some replay out of the DVD and I've only had it a short while.

This DVD has set a high bar for the type of footage that band's should be putting out. Its not just some lame in studio footage with a couple of live songs. This is more like watching VH1 Behind the Music mixed with a documentary.

This a very well done DVD and makes the purchase of Horizon's worth it again. Sell your old one, buy this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars really funny DVD, and very well put toghter..., November 5, 2009

first off i was not excpecting much out of the DVD, but after the first 10 min of the DVD i realized this was not just another 30 min DVD of the band recording there album, and a few interviews here and there, but it is a actuall full length DVD, including a set that is about an hour and a half, not to mention all the crazy things that these guys do when there not on stage is worth buying it alone, like jumping of 100ft bridges surfing and any of the other insane things that this band does, if you enjoy band DVD's in general then you will love this not to mention all of the extra bonus features and the live set, a must buy for all parkway fans any were

4.0 out of 5 stars Brutal and Hardcore, but not quite as good as their first, March 17, 2009
This review is from: Horizons (Audio CD)
I have to start by saying that I feel kinda bad for the 4 star review, I would really like to give it a 4.5 as it is very good. These guys really know how to play. They have excellent rythm and remain melodic throughout their fast beats, devilish drumming, and finger-splitting guitars. I think the breakdowns are what gives "Killing With A Smile" the edge. "Horizons" still features the same excellent riffs and heavy breakdowns, but it feels like it's just a half notch lower if that makes any sense. Even with that very minor complaint, this alblum is still better than 90% of the metal I have ever heard - and that's pretty much all I listen to! Don't miss these guys, "Horizons" and "Killing With A Smile" are two of the best CD's I have ever purchased.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Hardcore from Down Undeer, June 9, 2008

Parkway Drive is a new name to me but was recommended very highly. I can tell you one thing that you will not be disappointed with this band. To preface my review I will say some of my top hardcore/metal bands I listen to are: Throwdown, Sleeping Giant, With Blood Comes Cleansing, As I Lay Dying, As Blood Runs Black Underoath, and many others. The CD is very well put together musically. The CD sets a direction and sticks to it. What sets Parkway Drive and other great hardcore band above the rest is synergy within the band. As you listen to Parkway Drive everything fits and every instrument has there place. It isnt one stand out guitarist with 3 other ok band members. Everyone is strong in their instrument and flows well with either other. I enjoyed the CD very much and have since both Parkway Drive's other CD's which are well done as well.

Awesome album. Great riffs and heavy breakdowns. The lyrics of most songs are based on how ephemeral humanity's time on earth is/will be.
