Product Description

Founded in the late 19th century by the great industrialist and philanthropist Jamsetji Tata, the Tata group has been a pioneer in nationally vital industries such as steel, hydroelectricity, aviation, and information technology; the history of the group is in significant measure the history of India’s industrial development. Horizons: The Tata-India Century, 1904-2004 commemorates the death centenary of Jamsetji Tata and the birth centenaries of two men who helped guide the group’s destiny, JRD Tata and Naval Tata. Illustrated with rare archival images as well as spectacular contemporary photographs, Horizons narrates Tata’s history year-by-year, from 1904 to the present. This book interweaves the industrial struggles and achievements with the constructive philanthropy and social commitment of the group. It also contains lighter moments in the form of personal anecdotes and memories. Most importantly, the Tata story is directly juxtaposed with the history of modern India, also presented annually, allowing the reader to make connections between two parallel narratives. The 1,500 or more images in this book come from a wide variety of sources: national, state, and company archives; previously inaccessible personal collections; photographers as famous as Cartier-Bresson and as obscure as Anonymous; and spectacular contemporary panoramic images shot by Amit Pasricha. Together they represent an unprecedented visual record of Tata and Indian history. The Author Aman Nath was born in an industrial family and educated in Delhi where he completed his Masters in history. His early interest in poetry led him to a career of copywriting and graphic design in advertising. He has travelled, researched and photographed ex

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing book - Best Coffee Table books you can get, April 29, 2007
I purchased this book last year.

The book is comprehensive and covers the past century of India from the Tata company's perspective. It has a collection of rare and beautiful photographs capturing important moments in India and Tata' history. The quality of the Hardbound book was exceptional. I gave this book as a present to my Mom, and boy she was happy!

If you are a Tata employee or an Indian or a honest entrepreneur, this book is sure to enthrall you for quite some time.

Thanks,
Bharat
