4.0 out of 5 stars A Nirvana Collectors' Item
This EP originally was released in Austrailia in early 1992 and later released in Japan (as noted in With the Lights Out boxed set). I bought this in 1994 after the death of Kurt Cobain for 30 dollars and I've always treasured it because it is rarer than the albums and commericial singles. The music itself is good. "Even in His Youth" IS NOT included on With the Lights...

i think i dissed amazon.com in my last review , maybe they'llpost this one. The songs are: 1. Aneyerism (From Incesticide)2. Turnaround (From Incesticide) 3. D7 (One of the best Nirvana songs, but not worth almost forty dollars with S+H) 4. Molly's Lips (From Incesticide) 5. Son of a Gun (From Incesticide) 6. This review is from: Hormoaning Ep (Audio CD)
"Even in His Youth" IS NOT included on With the Lights Out and is only available on the Smells Like Teen Spirit single. Four songs were covers recorded for the BBC ("Turnaround", "D-7", "Son of a Gun" and "Molly's Lips"). Except for "D-7" the other three appear on Incesticide but D-7 is available in the With the Lights Out boxed set. The other two tracks were unreleased on albums. "Aneurysm" appears on incesticide but this version only appears on With the Lights Out and Smells Like Teen Spirt single. The Japanese version includes text in Japanese and a black and white photo. The design is very similar to Nevermind except with more yellow in the water. Basically, with the release of With the Lights Out and Incesticide, the only reason to get this is for an otherwise unattainable version of "Even in His Youth." This is only for major collectors of Nirvana. I'd would give it a 5 as a die-hard Nirvana fan but because it's pricey for its length and 80% of the material is available elsewhere I must give it a 4.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hormoaning the facts:, October 1, 2005
This review is from: Hormoaning Ep (Audio CD)
Hormoaning is an EP (not an album). It was released in Australia and Japan only, about 30,000 copies in each of those two countries. Anyway at the time it kicked ass! rare Nirvana songs. Although that version of 'Aneurysm' and 'Even In His Youth' were both already available as b-sides on the 'Smells Like Teen Spirit single'(a better version of Aneurysm can be found on the Incesticide album). The song 'D7' was also already available as a b-side on the 'Lithium' single. The songs 'Turnaround', 'Son Of A Gun' and 'Molly's Lips' were released shortly after 'Hormaoning' on the 'Incesticide' album. As it is, it is a nice little collection of some of the great, less well known Nirvana songs. As it was only a limited edition release it is hard to find a real copy that is not fake, but its a good collectors item. The songs arn't rare, they were all available on other releases by the end of 1992 anyway.

5.0 out of 5 stars A stellar EP from Nirvana!, September 22, 2003

This review is from: Hormoaning Ep (Audio CD)
This EP was originally released in Japan in early '92 (to coincide with Nirvana's then-current tour there) and contains six brief blasts of pre-Nevermind punk fury. In fact, this EP, more than any other Nirvana release, is a true testament to their punk (NOT grunge) roots. They blaze through all of these songs, and there's not a weak cut among them. Opening with a blistering reading of Devo's "Turnaround," Nirvana cranks up the volume and never looks back. "D-7" is simply one of my favorite Nirvana moments ever (even if it is a cover). The songs "Even in His Youth" and "Aneurysm" (this is the old demo version, not the one found on Incesticide) are from a January 1, 1991 demo session, while the remiaing four tracks are pulled from the band's October 1990 John Peel session (by the way, these recordings are the first ones made with new drummer Dave Grohl in the band). If you can't find a copy of this album anywhere, don't get too discouraged. "Molly's Lips," "Son of a Gun," and "Turnaround" can all be found on Incesticide, while "Even in His Youth" and "Aneurysm" are also on the "Smells Like Teen Spirit" single. "D-7," I believe, is on some import versions of the "Lithium" single. But all in all, this is a great document of what Nirvana was doing during the days between Bleach and Nevermind. If you buy this, you'll love it.

The Nirvana box set (not singles collection) will probably be out in 3 or 4 months, and will probably include all these songs. Wait for that. If you don't own Incesticide yet, buy that. It's a way better b-sides collection. It's less than half the price of this and there are 15 songs instead of 6.

And why am I the only one who puts my name in my reviews?

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding import!!!, July 28, 2001
This review is from: Hormoaning Ep (Audio CD)
What a shame this is out-of-stock.

Hormoaning is an awesome CD-EP worth it for "D-7" alone. While most of the songs were later put on "Incesticide", 'Even In His Youth' available on the "SLTS" single, and "D-7" readily available on many bootlegs as well as MP3 form on the net... It's still worth it. I have both the Japanese and Aussie versions. This is a CD that MUST BELONG in every hardcore Nirvana fan's collection.

Do yourself a favor...Find this CD, and add it to your Nirvana library...

2.0 out of 5 stars Obsolete..., July 3, 2004

This review is from: Hormoaning Ep (Audio CD)
Initially I thought the appeal of this EP lay solely with D-7, the remaining tracks being collected on the readily available Incesticide album or the Teen Spirit CD single. Yet from reading some earlier reviews i'm now aware that D-7 also officially appears elsewhere, further diminishing this EP's ranking as a 'necessary purchase'. Therefore, this EP is really only for the Nirvana completest. Yet the tracks are nonetheless solid. The Peel tracks (1,3,4) aren't original Cobain songs but nevertheless are upbeat and great fun. The Aneurysm included here is different to the version included on Incesticide (and arguably better). An Australian version was also released to coincided with Nirvana's one and only tour of Australia. Although featuring exactly the same track-listing, the OZ release has a much prettier picture of the band on the cover.

2 stars, because of the complete overlap with other official Nirvana releases.

5.0 out of 5 stars play that again sam, March 3, 2003

this is a short album, five songs long. it is intense short burst of great nirvana. this cd is worthit for song #3 alone (D-7) starts out guitar alone and then it explodes and when the drums kick in, it is full on assault to your ears. also on here are songs you can also get from incestiside such as turnaround. son of a gun and molly's lips. all in all i find this a worthwhile venture. it is short, intense and straight through your soul with some good loud and lose pure rock music.

5.0 out of 5 stars NERVE, June 19, 2003
This review is from: Hormoaning Ep (Audio CD)
The songs on this are worth 5 stars obviously. but i;d just likree to point out that EVERY song on this ep is available elsewhere. Either on the singles as B sides (Even in his youth-SLTS, D7 is on lithium (the version i got anyway), and the rest are pretty much all off of Incesticide. So there is nothing new here unless you are a completest collector whos buying it just to own it.
