Fantastic! I'd give it more stars if I could...,

This review is from: Hormonally Yours (Audio CD)
Listening to this album sends chills down my spine. It is electric! "Hello (Turn Your Radio On)," "Goodbye, Cruel World," and "Stay" are unforgettable.By the way, contrary to what the Amazon reviewer wrote, the song, "Catwoman," was NOT written for the film, 'Batman II.' Siobhan Fahey and Marcella Detroit were planning to remake the old "b" movie, "Catwomen From the Moon," with themselves in starring roles, to coincide with the release of the cd. Due to budget limitations, the film never got made, and the closest they came was the beautiful video for "Stay."

Truly a masterpiece,
By Cristian Amargós (Barcelona, Spain) - See all my reviews

This album is a truly masterpiece, which combines pop music with goth/rock. And it blends together really well. The vocals of Marcella and Siobhan never sounded so good. This album was way beyond its time, and it's a shame the group never recorded again (as a duo, at least) after this.
The album opener, Goodbye Cruel World, was the first single, which flopped. I can't see why, since it's a listening pleasure. The somewhat depressing lyrics get lost in the campy, poppy production, which invigorates the song and the backing "ooohh la la la ahhh"'s are great. I Don't Care is a great song. Starting with a great Marcella scream, the ones fans have always liked, the song never loses its power. I like this one because Marcella sings more here than on the majority of tracks on the album. The chorus is classical, Siobhan sings and Marcy replies. Utterly fabulous! My 16th Apology isn't one of my favourites. It's sort of reggae-ish, and it has sort of a feel-good tune to it (although again the lyrics aren't exactly happy), but not one of the best. That said, I love the way they sing "with friends like me, who needs enemies?" Are We In Love Yet and Emotional Thing are nice pop ditties, with dark melodies and somewhat crazy lyrics. Pleasant. Stay is the center of the album. It doesn't match, unfortunately, the rest of the album, because it features Marcy on lead vocals. I wish she had done more leads, because she truly steals the song with her dramatic verses pleading for her lover to stay... that is, until Siobhan starts singing and adds an epic edge to the song. It all merges beautifully at the end, with Marcy screaming "stay" and the music setting the dramatic tone. A pop masterpiece. Black sky is somthing of a change. After the great ballad, it's time to go berserk. It's probably the darkest track of the album, and it's great. Marcy & Siobhan sing together and are superb. The instrumental break at the middle is fantastic, and Marcy singing backwards (which actually looks as if she's singing opera) is great. Wonderful song. The song is segued with The Trouble With Andre. Again, it is a dark song, with Siobhan's deep voice all over the top, with Marcy relegated to backing vocals at the chorus. But, still, it's great. On Moonchild you can hear Siobhan's breath all over the song, which is kinda weird. A quite calm song about misfits, it has soothing verses, till Siobhan demonstrates her range on the epic chorus. The result is good. A sample of this track was used on Tricky's song Overcome in 60 seconds. "I was floating around the atmosphere, I liked what I saw so I came down here" sing the girls on Catwoman. Very T-Rex influenced, this song is way too overproduced, but it's still listenable and great. Love the girls meow! Let Me Entertain You is the only track I usually skip. The song bores me to death. The fact that Marcy is relegated to backing vocals and those caveman-like "whoas" really don't improve the quality of the song either... The last track is also another masterpiece. The ballad, Hello (Turn Your Radio On), a song about the isolation people suffer nowadays, a plea for communication, is totally stunning. Siobhan really knows how to sing this one with a tortured voice, and the way Marcy accompanies her in the chorus is absolutely awesome. Overall, the girls could never have done it better. It is a vast improvement over their debut album. The only complaint is the fact that Marcella isn't featured that much on the album, but for the rest, it is a stunning album

TOP TEN ALL TIME FAVORITE CD - SHAKESPEAR'S SISTER,
By A Customer
This review is from: Hormonally Yours (Audio CD)
I HAVE ALWAYS ENJOYED EVERY STYLE OF MUSIC FROM DISCO, COUNTRY, ROCK, OR ALTERNATIVE AND IT'S NOT VERY OFTEN WHEN AN ALBUM LIKE THIS ONE COMES OUT. FOR ANYONE WHO REMEMBERS BANANARAMA, THIS CD IS A PURE TREAT. IT MAY NOT HAVE MADE THE TOP TEN HERE IN THE STATES BUT IT DIDN'T HAVE THE PUSHING AS A LARGE PORTION OF OUR ARTISTS DO TODAY, OTHERWISE I FEEL IT WOULD HAVE WENT A LOT HIGHER ON THE CHARTS. I HAVE OVER 1000 CDS AND THERE ARE VERY FEW THAT I LIKED ENOUGH TO BUY DOUBLES, AND THIS IS ONE. TRY IT, I'M SURE YOU WILL BE WELL SATISFIED.

Beyond Hormonally Yours...,

Sacred Heart was great, and Hormonally Yours was great in a different way...and now that Marcy has left, Ms. Fahey has completed a new compilation of songs to be released as another CD/album, but hasn't. Why? The songs include "I Can Drive" "Waiting" "Excuse Me John" and this album, which I refer to and title "I Can Drive" is the best material ever that crosses the bridge of the difference between the first two albums. The music is first rate rock, with elements of everything from the 60's to the 90's woven in, and Ms. Fahey's vocals are the best we have ever heard. But I ask? Where is the company? Why aren't they backing her? Siobhan we miss you. Mathew.

Thank God for Blue Roses!!,

I ordered the album to replace a copy (on cassette) stolen from me at summer camp seven summers ago. The music (I just listened to the samples on this site) is every bit as lubricious and implacably witty as I remember! Funky! Spunky! Sparks in the dark! It's one of those albums that you NEED if you want to have a complete off-the-beaten-track late-80s early-90s campy alterna-gal collection. Black Sky is very R.A. WIlson, and the whole thing sounds like a soundtrack to Susie Bright, Anne Rice, John Waters, and classy indie leather stripclubs... delightfully lucreous...

I had this album as a cassette when I was in high school. I loved it then and still love it. The songs are the perfect blend of pop and early 90's synth, straight from Britain.

It's an entertaining cd with a different type of sound. I was hooked on Shakespeare's Sister the 1st time I ever heard them. Stay is the ultimate love song!

Their Best Album,
This review is from: Hormonally Yours (Audio CD)
I had this album years ago and I loved it. It was only recently when the song "stay" appeared on Ghost Whisperer that I was reminded of how good this group and album is. This album is not available on I-Tunes (I know can you believe it?!!) so I came here to get a copy. This really is a mix of dark pop and alternative. If you like Concrete Blonde give this a try.

But is it better than Sacred Heart??,
By A Customer
This review is from: Hormonally Yours (Audio CD)
Siobhan and Marcy really excel themeselves in this album but I don't agree it is better than Sacred Heart. For a start, you've got to remember that Sacred Heart was released in the 80's and so contained some 80's sounding music; a bit of better producing could have made songs like Run Silent and Sacred Heart massive hits. Back to Hormonally Yours though; it's great! Songs like Stay, Moonchild, and Hello (TYRO) are really powerfull and meaningfull. If you've got those $15 (or about £9 in my case)and if you like gothic/glam rock or if you've got good music taste, get this!
