Book Description

May 3, 1994
An up-to-the-minute revision of the enormously informative and comforting book that describes everything you need to know about the perimenopause, the menopause and the postmenopause.

Women are now regularly living into their eighties and beyond, but are often hobbled by destructive cardiovascular, bone and other symptomatic problems that begin early in their perimenopause and that rob them of their freedom of movement, their personal decision-making opportunities and their joy ion living. The goal of this book is to guide all women, starting early on in life through the so-called silent menopausal passage, by offering information about nutrition, fitness, hormone replacement therapy and lifestyle changes so that they may remain active and unencumbered almost as long as they live. This revised edition discusses the latest medical findings about hormone replacement therapies, the new food groups, changes in fat allowances, the role of antioxidants in cardiovascular protection, osteoporosis and the treatment of ovarian and breast cancer, including the use of Tamoxifen. Dr. Gillespie also covers:

  • Premature menopause

  • The perimenopause and PMS

  • Diet and exercise

  • Sexuallity and birth control

  • Breast disorders

  • Hysterectomies

  • Aging

  • The doctor-patient relationship...and much more.

2.0 out of 5 stars fine if you think menopause is a disease, April 15, 2000
This review is from: Hormones Hot Flashes (Paperback)
Unless you are very good at separating medical fact from the attitude it is presented in, or are already convinced menopause is a disease, stick to the much more balanced "The Complete Book of Menopause: Every Woman's Guide to Good Health" by Carol Landau et al. I intend to. If however, you want to take the approach menopause is an illness and fight it with one form of therapy or other, you will like this one.
