There is no better recording of this chamber music,
By Zeev Saffir (Oberlin, OH) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Horn Quintet / Divertimento (Audio CD)
This recording of the Mozart quintet is by far the best available on the modern horn, or at least the best I've listened to. I've listened to many people play this including Roland Pandolfi of the St. Louis Symphony, Dennis Brain, and Andrew Clark (on the natural horn) and this is by far my favorite, though the natural horn is quite cool. When I first listened to this I instantly picked up subtle differences between Baumann's playing and the others. He has superior control and makes the quintet sound like it is so easy and natural. The strings are also excellent. The pizzicato sections are brought out particularly well. The whole CD is just excellently played and is a must have for horn player who wants to play this music.
