A Kid's Review
This review is from: Horns of Plenty Part 1 (Audio CD)
Disc A: A really excellent selection of pieces by the 1961 Kenton Mellophonium Band in concert at Moonlight Gardens, Coney Island Park, Cincinnati Ohio June 14-17, 1961. There are five arrangements for the Mellophonium Band never issued on record or CD before this release. It's great. A must have for Kenton followers.
Disc B: Features the Collegiate Neophonic Orchestra of Southern California directed by Jack Wheaton. This set of arrangements features French horns as substitutes for the Mellophoniums in the earlier Kenton recording. It's great too. Some of the music was featured in a 1967 telecast.
The liner notes are quite extensive and some of the best I've ever seen. The entire Horns of Plenty series is a must have for Kenton aficionados.
