Politics, romance, peace, finance, success - this book is IT for doing USA astrology. Really., August 14, 2007
This review is from: Horoscopes of U.S. States and Cities (Paperback)
This venerable classic, Dodson's highly-respected, one-of-a-kind collection of astrological charts of American states and cities, contains hundreds of subversive, shocking, delightful secrets: it can tell you more about 'the vibes' of any state or city in the USA - and whether those vibes might bring you romantic, financial, political, intellectual and/or emotional happiness/stability/inspiration - than any book out there. The impeccably researched dates of 'birth' (e.g. first incorporations, acceptances into the Union, etc.) sing the notes and rhythms of the spots we'd like to love...or avoid. Take Hot Springs, Arkansas, for example: Pluto's ahead of the Sun, all right. Once a sexy magnet for the richies and their grannies, gamblers and the demimonde, Al Capone and other gangsters used to flock to the famed mineral waters in winter to 'take the cure' in the days before sulfa drugs. It is still a racy town, though isolated, with its full complement of cliques, under-the-radar plutocrats and plenty of unprintable intrique. And get a look at tough-town Chicago's edgy Mars-Saturn-Mercury Virgo gang if you dare...the Second City's a talent generator for timing experts in the financial, medical, musical, and political arenas. But it is when you get personal with these charts that you see the amazing benefits: would you rather move to a city that has Saturn or Jupiter on your Sun? Think you might bump into a few gorgeous strangers to dance with in a state that has its Venus on your Mars and its Mars on your Venus? Just your type! Want to incorporate? See if the state, state capital and city governments are likely to give your company a treat or a treatment. Do your Astro*Carto*Graphy big maps - find your general areas to explore - then dash for this treasure-trove of a book. I can't imagine doing a proper relocation look-up without it.

Important reference work for mundane astrology., August 29, 2007
This review is from: Horoscopes of U.S. States and Cities (Paperback)
This is a new edition of a work that was first published in the late seventies. She has researched the birth times of the states and larger cities and done charts for them. It can be used to compare your chart with the place you
live or want to move to or to get insight into the psychology of different places in the US. This new edition has
many new charts that were not in the original version and also a fuller and better explanation of how to interpret
the charts. This is quite a useful book if you are interested in mundane astrology (the astrology of places).

A must for the astrological library!, February 7, 2009
This review is from: Horoscopes of U.S. States and Cities (Paperback)
Carolyn Dodson has done a marvelous job in developing the charts of cities throughout the USA. While it's impossible to include all of them, of course, those that give access for someone to see a natal chart in synastry with these cities are close enough to offer valid consideration.
If you only get this book for the charts without reading the marvelous prelude of pages in which she has broken down the country by region as well as offering her perspectives on that synastry, you will deprive yourself of an equally important facet of the book. This is one book that, the more you use it, increases in value for you. If you're an astrology student or astrologer, Carolyn Dobson's Horoscopes of US States and Cities is an absolute must to have!
I moved 6 months ago, but this particular book--already in my library for the last 20+ years--is still packed away, so I bought another copy. It won't hurt for me to have two copies. That alone should speak volumes about this recommendation!
