This is a brilliant book about a girl called Wendy who is not a very good sportswoman, who rolls down a hill when their trailer gets unhooked and she finds herself in a sportscamp. 2.0 out of 5 stars Nice title, dumb story
Wendy and Elliot get away from their parents. While looking for help, they come to a place called Camp Jellyjam. It's a camp devoted to sports. Competitive Elliot loves it there, but Wendy can't help feel like something is wrong. Why are the competitions so serious? What's with the "Only the best" motto? Why doesn't the leader seem very interested in finding their...

5.0 out of 5 stars So freakin sweeet!, August 3, 2006

Capt. Shme (Salem, OR USA) - See all my reviews
The Horror at camp Jellyjam is my second favorite Goosebumps book. It's about a girl named Wendy who's going on a vacation with her Mom, Dad, and her brother Elliot. They're traveling from Idaho to Wyoming and they have a big trailer hooked to the back of their car.Elliot and Wendy complain that they're bored so their parents let them go and sit in the trailer.

They stop the car and climb into the back trailer. Then when they're going up a hill the trailer unlatches and the trailer falls down a hill and they end up by camp jellyjam. They figure out that Camp Jellyjam is a sports camp and to all the kids and counselors winning is everything "Only the best" everyone says. Once they get used to the camp people start to disappear just like in Welcome to Camp Nightmare.

What's happening to everyone? Why is everyone so competitive? Why do the counselors act so weird? These are some of the questions you may ask before reading The Horror at Camp Jellyjam.

This book could be kind of creepy to little kids but not people over the age of 8.

The ending is very good and the problem is resolved in the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Suspence is Killing me!!, February 18, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Horror at Camp Jellyjam (Goosebumps Series) (Paperback)
The Horror at camp Jellyjam is a Freak'n masterpiece!!
It's filled with suspece and curioustity that gets you hooked!
Okay,Wendy and Elliot were on there way to a family trip when they get detatched from there RV trailer thing, and so they get lost in this camp where like this little girl scares the crap outta you when she's trying to warn Wendy and elliot to get out.
So this camp is real competetive,And everyone is diveded into dorms and wendy's trying to get out of there, while this camp counceler and campers are creepily leaving clues on why they won't let Wendy to call her parents by unhooking there camp telephones and other ways of not keeping conntact with her parents and other stuff. Theres just so many weird and odd things that i can't tell you because It'll led right to the Most crazy reason why Camp jelly jam is acting so weird and zombie like.

p.s. Theres one secret i can tell you......(win a camper wins in a sport, they get these medals that hypnotize them. but i won't give you the reason why!)

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Horror at Camp Jellyjam (Goosebumps Series) (Paperback)
I was addicted to these books when I was younger and it wasn't until I was majoring in education in college that I figured out why. They were interesting with bizarre plot twists that most 9-12 year olds don't think about and they were short (usually between 110-130 pages). I could read the whole thing in a day.

My parents also didn't have a lot of heartache with buying me a new book because these are relatively inexpensive (in the neighborhood of 3-5 bucks each).

R.L. Stine's "Goosebumps" books aren't scary, just kind of creepy. There aren't graphic descriptions of murder and mayhem. Just some ghosts, werewolves, or potions. The main character is alive in the end, and the final chapter resolves everything.

**Keep in mind, R.L. Stine has other books that aren't in the "Goosebumps" series that tend to be a little harsher when it comes to hauntings and plot. They are written more for the 12-14 age group and are longer (around 150-200 pages).

buddy. Who told them about camp and to wait for there
parents. The parents were looking for them at camp. The camp said the kids weren't there. They had to compete. They had to collect coins but once they collected them they disappared after
the winners walk. I dont want to give away the ending.

5.0 out of 5 stars A review, 16 years later, May 30, 2011
Buy this book but don't spend too much on it. This is one of the finest non-Monster Blood books that R.L. Stine has ever made. The camp counselor has a supernatural ability to take a hit only to find out he's working for an even bigger power. I'm 26 years old and I read this when it was new and the Goosebumps books were popular. I only wish I didn't sell all those book to get money towards a Playstation and Tekken 2. I had every single one and had I realized that I could of just waited until I was an adult to buy all of those video games for cheap only to find that Goosebumps books original print go for as much as $40 a piece, then I would of saved the books. I don't know if this review helps in any way but this was a GREAT children's horror book. I recommend buying it for cheap if you can find it.

4.0 out of 5 stars King Jellyjam: "Only the Best!", March 25, 2010
As a huge Goosebumps fan, I first read this book around 1996 or 1997 and decided to check it out again after so many years. I'm now 22 and still love the series.

An Amazon reviewer of the illustrated version of this book (Goosebumps Graphix) mentioned that the story itself is one of the quirkier books of the series - they're right. Here's some examples why: Wendy and Elliot come crashing down a steep hill in a detached trailer at the beginning of the story, only to then find an overly cheerful counselor named Buddy who takes them to a sports camp. The kids are worried about their parents, who were driving the car attached to the trailer for vacation, but they eventually get into the spirit of the camp instead. King Jellyjam's camp has very competitive children and counselors who are obsessed with winning and who keep chanting "Only the Best!" The ground mysteriously rumbles at night. Everyone competes for gold coins, and the mascot of the camp is a big, fat, purple blob. Weird, huh?

I thought it was interesting that Stine created a sports camp where everybody is so competitive, yet Wendy - the main character - plays sports for fun and doesn't understand everyone's unusual behavior. Her brother, on the other hand, fits in immediately. I like how there is something unsettling about the camp on Wendy's mind as she tries to fit in and figure things out. Kids start to disappear in the camp, which is something that Stine usually does in his camp books, but it adds to the creepy feel of the story.

Overall, this is not one of the best Goosebumps books, but it is pretty high up there. The book is unique for its quirky, almost slippery storyline, and its themes, such as the drive to win. I appreciated the story even more upon this recent read.

This title was not impressive. The plot was nothing short of ridiculous, which is a pity since the beginning was captivating; 2 lost siblings, a creepy camp... Sure the mascot was a clue, but...
Meh.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book gave me nightmares., February 24, 2010
By
This review is from: The Horror at Camp Jellyjam (Goosebumps Series) (Paperback)
This is the only RL Stine book I can recall reading in my childhood that actually gave me nightmares that kept me up all night. I've read tons of Goosebumps and Fear Street books, many of them way more realistic than this one, but for some reason after I finished this book I was up for most of the night with vivid nightmares or crying in my sleep.

Note: I was like 9 when I read it and it still gives me the heebies thinking about it at 23.
