Book Description

August 1, 1999
Horror Flick, the novel, is about a grade-Z movie called, of course, "Horror Flick". This film's star is Reva Trantini, a peer of Chaney, Lugosi, and Karloff, who died mysteriously during filming. Now his spirit resides in the film and feeds on the lives of its eclectic viewers.

Horror Flick's hero is Brent Wooden, a Clint Eastwood-type, macho detective who is more at ease with deranged killers than evil, demon-possessed material objects. His assistants in this case include Buttonwillow McKittrick, a hippie, brainy, yet peculiarly seductive psychic, Roger Herman, an ultra-low budget film maker with an ultrahigh budget ego, and Billy Bob Henson, a film critic with his nose pointed permanently skyward.

Horror Flick is populated with lots of other bizarre and interesting characters, all of whom come into contact with the film, few of whom survive. Brent Wooden follows the string of gruesome and bizarre deaths, hoping to catch this evil spirit and stop it before the film's nationally scheduled broadcast. Will he do it? Will the nation fall victim to the worst catastrophe since disco dancing? Will Brent and Buttonwillow fall in love and live happily ever after? Read the book and find out.

Horror Flick is not to be confused with a serious horror novel, a serious mystery novel, a serious romance novel, or any serious work of fiction. It's a fun, satirical romp with lots of elements from lots of genres.

About the Author

Bob Zeidman was born in Philadelphia on January 18, 1960. He received two Bachelor's Degrees from Cornell University in Physics and Electrical Engineering, and a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.

Several years ago, while taking film courses at DeAnza College, Bob began writing, directing, editing, mixing, and producing short films. His film, February 20, 1988, an experimental 16mm short, won first place at the 1988 Fremont Film Festival. His follow-up film, Writer's Block, also a 16mm short, was shown at the 1989 Philadelphia International Film Festival.

Bob is the author of Verilog Designer's Library, an engineering textbook from Prentice-Hall. Bob has also written a number of non-fiction articles for national magazines on such subjects as filmmaking, business, and engineering. He has interviewed director Robert Altman along with other less well-known independents such as Roger Nygard and Soviet director Alexander Zeldovich.

Fiction, however, has always been Bob's first love. Over the years he has garnered a number of awards for his fiction writing including a 1999 Opus Magnum Discovery Award from the Hollywood Film Festival, for his unpublished novel, Horror Flick. Bob was also a semifinalist in the 2000 poetry.com North American Open Poetry Contest for the poem, I Remember, a quarterfinalist in the 1999 New Century Writers Awards for Horror Flick, and a quarterfinalist in the 1999 New Century Writers Awards for the screenplay version of The Amazing Adventure of Edward and Dr. Sprechtmachen. In 1998 he received a scholarship to the Vermont Studio Center for a month of intensive writing under the tutelage of authors Charles Baxter and David Bradley. In 1997 he was a semifinalist in the Monterey County Screenwriting Competition for his screenplay, Sex and Violence, which was later performed as a staged reading under the auspices of IMAGE, a San Francisco area film club. In addition, he received two first place prizes from the Foster City Annual International Writers Contest, in 1990 for the short story The Lost and Found Virginity and in 1994 for the short story The Contest. The latter story was also a semi-finalist in the 1993 national Syndicated Fiction Project.

Bob is married to Carrie Zeidman, a freelance graphic artist. They live with their son, Matthew, in Northern California. When he isn't writing, Bob likes to spend his time designing integrated circuits, advanced computers, and high-speed telecommunication devices. He is the president of Zeidman Consulting, a highly respected engineering design firm in Silicon Valley.

This review is from: Horror Flick (Paperback)
OK, I'm the author. But I can honestly say this is the best thing I've ever written. It's lots of fun with great, quirky characters, bizarre supernatural murders, and old-fashioned romance. The Hollywood Film Festival agreed and gave it their Opus Magnum Award. These copies are from a limited printing that were distributed to Hollywood bigshots like Steven Spielberg, David Foster, John Goodman, David Brown, Stephen King, Roger Corman, and Dave Barry. When the film gets made, this copy will be a collector's item.
