Editorial Reviews

Led by the black heart and hellbent vocal style of The Rock and Roll Outlaw, reunited with original guitarist Stoney Tombs, Horror Rises From The Tombs is a vinyl-only 15 song punk-metal Molotov cocktail that mixes the band's classic slash-and-burn, high-octane style with big hooks and even bigger riffs to create the ultimate Hookers album. OWN IT! Black Vinyl limited to 1000 units.

...in terms of both style and quality. I personally consider The Hookers first album, "Satan's Highway" to be the high-water mark of their career, but this newest release is a close second. Like that first album this thing definitely leans more toward the punk side of their quite unique punk-metal mayhem. Dare I say it's a little more "refined" than that first album, though, and consequently gives up a little of "Highway's" primal power. However, the 1-2-3 punch of "The Clock Strikes 12", "Black Past", and "25 To Life" on this album best balance craft and raw power and are as good as anything
The Hookers have done.

This review mostly addresses Hookers fans who are considering buying this album. If you're curious about the band and looking for a place to start, I suggest buying Black Visions of Crimson Wisdom as your first album.

I'm a pretty big fan of the Hookers and all the side projects that members of the band have been involved with (Blade of the Ripper, Brothers of Conquest). I'm pretty happy to see that the Hookers are apparently back together and making music, but this first effort is a bit on the rough side. While I'm not a stickler for production, it's noticeably rough - hard to tell if this was a conscious decision or not. The song quality also isn't as high as it was with other Hookers albums. There's definitely some standout tracks such as For the Master and Ride Hard, Ride Free but overall the album just feels not up to the same level of awesomeness as previous releases - or even the aforementioned side projects.

If I could, I'd give this album 3.5 stars. I'm really happy that they're putting out new albums, but they need a bit more work to live up to their back catalog.
