3.0 out of 5 stars Could have been better. November 28, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The writing in this book was pretty bad, however, I liked the story, Shelter, it flowed very nicely compared to the rest of the stories. If the stories were edited I would have enjoyed this collection a lot more. The first story is the most descriptive of the bunch, however again, the bad editing took away from what could have been a good story. I do see some potential in this writer.

2.0 out of 5 stars Horror Stories: He said, She said October 9, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I bought this book based on the front cover. I know that is a bad thing to do but if the stories could match the cover it may be a decent book. "From the Page" started out with a very descriptive opening. This was thrown off by the overuse of "she did this and she said that". It settled down a bit and I could get back into the story with regular names being used but the ease of reading was too disruptive. I went into Dust and Dirt already looking forward to counting how many "he"s would be used in a row and I began to create a drinking game. For every "he" or "she" used consecutively I would take a drink. "Shelter" was a well-crafted story and edited nicely. I don't know if only a few of the stories got the editing treatment but the inconstancy of it ruined the whole book for me. The stories themselves didn't do it for me as a whole with the editing aside. With a short story collection you can usually hope for a 20 percent return; find one or two spooky tales, not with this one. A TOC would have been nice. There seems to be an underlining theme with all the stories I could not put my finger on. 3.0 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars What are you waiting for? Get this! February 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
In the realm of short stories, Steve Wands is the guy to watch. He can take very little and do so much with it.
This collection of shorts reveals a dark and violent world of really sick people. People who you could almost feel pity for were it not for the deep depravity inside them. For example, TV Casualty. You want to feel bad for her, but you can't.
He has such a vivid imagination that fleshes out details so well that you can almost reach out and feel the mold on the books and the soggy windowsills.
These shorts are individually wrapped gems of nightmares. What I like the most about these is that in most cases, the story sets up the scene and characters, while the real terror is just out of frame. The scariest part of the story is left to your own imagination. Like in the case of The Beast, where the terror is LITERALLY just out of frame, lurking in the darkness.

This set of stories is a lot of fun and shouldn't be missed!
