I'm RE-READING this book for the third time!!, August 25, 2001
What can I say about this book except that it is so good, such a pleasure that I am re-reading this for the THIRD TIME? I love anthologies, but oftentimes anthologies has stories that go on for too long (padded by sometimes self-indulgent and self-impressed writers) or stories that are simply weak. This anthology avoids those traps -- mainly because the 365 stories are incredibly short, punchy and memorable. It's set up so you read a story or two a day but I could not put this BIG, THICK paperback down. I carried it with me and read it in between shows (I'm an entertainer). I read it on the airplane. And I wound up finishing it up late at night -- yes, it's the cliched "book-you-can't-put-down." Most of these incredibly effective, tightly written pieces don't last more than a page or two. But you think about them. And when you've completed this book, you're sad because it's over. Of course, I found a solution to that: I re-read it periodically. I sometimes sell some books that I love on ... or trade them in used bookstores. I'll never sell this one. It's going to be re-read many times.

Scary stories... yes indeed!, May 31, 2000
WOW! I got this book for x-mas and now I can safely say I am done reading it. The whole thing. This book is filled with 365 scary tales... the longest tale in the book I believe only comes to 2 pages (font and back). So there not long stories at all. All by differnt authors of short stories. No big names in here but definatly writers with talent. A must buy and read on a lonely stormy night or at a camp fire!

A Supreme Horror Sampler, September 23, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Horrors!: 365 Scary Stories (Hardcover)
I adored this book! It is a supreme sampler of Who's Who and Who's New in the horror field.
It has some of my long-time favorite authors like Karen Taylor (See her wonderful 5-novel series The Vampire Legacy), Nancy Kilpatrick (another dark mistress with multiple vampire novels), Steve Rasnic Tem (who just won the Bram Stoker award), Yvonne Navarro (a master at both her original novels -- I LOVED DEADTIMES -- and her novelizations for ALIENS and the BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER series), along with Tom Piccirilli, Brian Hodge, Hugh B. Cave, Jessica Amanda Salmonson, Jay Bonansinga and a host of others with multiple novels under their belt.
Then there's this delightful group of new-comers, whose names I've never heard before, or who have just started popping up in the small press. This is a detailed snap-shot of who's actively working in the horror field right now. It may not have everyone, but it comes closer than you'll ever get again. It's a wonderful way to sample new authors as well as visit again with old favorites.
I've used the book much as you do any sampler -- as a guide for buying books by authors I've never tried before. If I liked their story, I bought one of their books. I've found some new favorites as a result of discovering them in this book.
And if you don't like a story or someone's style - well, they're all less than 1,000 words long. You'll be on to someone else in a few minutes time.
