possibly the mose authentic french music around,
By A Customer
This review is from: Hors-Saison-New 1999 (Audio CD)
Hors-Saison is a colorful medley of authentic French blues. Cabrel is one of the most famous French musicians around. Every emotion comes out in this album. Hors Saison is a sweet mellow and sad song. La Belle Debbie is a rythmic danceable tune. Cent Ans De Plus is an original song about slavery. The CD is a must buy for all french-enthusiastics. It even comes with a case\book with the words to the songs and pictures. of course, the words and tunes are in french, so it's good to have some background in the language.

I love Francis Cabrel and this album is no exception! ~ His wonderful voice and beautiful music style make this album pure joy! ~ I recommend Francis Cabrel whether you speak French or not...if you like Gordon Lightfoot, James Taylor, Eric Clapton.... and the words are always included (in French of course) so you can attempt to sing along! ~ :) Ecoutez-vous! ~ Jody Secker

I bought this looking for some French music to help me learn the language. I LOVE this CD. Track 9 is especially good, but the whole CD is enjoyable. Not one bad track on the CD. The style kind of reminds me of Chris Isaak with a little Billy Joel mixed in. Even if you don't know the language, this is a beautiful CD, including it's packaging which opens like a book, with the lyrics written inside and the last page a sleeve containing the beautiful music. Enjoy!

Another Cabrel Classic,

Albums like Sarbacane are few and far between even for a consistent artist like Cabrel. He's hatched another classic with Hors Saison. If you've experienced European coastal resorts off season (Knokke, Biarritz, Nice, etc.) the title cut will take you right back there. Like Sarbacane, there's not a bad cut on the disk. Coup de chapeau M. Cabrel!

A Perfect CD,

I'm not kidding, this is a great CD. I first heard Cabrel while living in Germany, and I was hooked. This was the first CD I could get my hands on after coming back to the states. Believe me, it's no disappointment. All the mellow stuff you (hopefully) have come to love is here, as well as the Cabrel-esque, meaningful faster tunes. This is great! I'm extremely glad I have access to his music here!

I first heard an example of Cabrel's music when I watched the movie "Broadcast News," while home with nothing to do. The scene where Albert Brooks sings along is so energetic. I watched the credits closely to find out who the artist was and promptly bought this CD. I don't understand a word of it but it is one of my absolute favorites. By the way does anyone know what CD that song is on that was played in Broadcast news?

This was my first Francis Cabrel CD which I bought on a whim. I loved it so much I started to collect his other CDs. There's no doubt that he's a talented musician, and I can see this as I compare this CD to his older works. He writes great lyrics (the lyrics are included, and even if you don't know French you can ask someone to help translate or try one of those translation websites). And you'll find that his music is complex if you tune out his voice and just listen to the music. I like all the songs on this CD, but I must say #4 Le Reste Du Temps is my favorite. Tracks #1, #2, and #10 are my next favorite songs. As I add more of his CDs to my collection, I find that I listen to this one less and less. It's true, _Samedi Soir Sur La Terre_ and _Hors Saison_ are excellent choices, but right now I tend to prefer _Quelqu'Un De L'Intérieur_, and _Cabrel Public_.

What is it about Ohio and Cabrel?,
By
This review is from: Hors-Saison-New 1999 (Audio CD)
I was first introduced to Cabrel's music as a student in Brussels, where his La Femme Qui M'Accompanie (sp?) was on heavy rotation on the jukebox at the neighborhood bar. Since then, whether in London, DC and now Ohio, I have sought out and purchased his albums. With the exception of his Spanish album, which was not great, his work just keeps getting better. Forget Piaf. Forget Aznavour. Francis is not your father's French singer. Now if I could only figure out who my fellow Ohio fans of Carbrel are. Perhaps we could get him to a concert in Columbus.

It brings me back to a rainy French day,

I first heard Francis Cabrel at the FNAC, after the first day of classes in Tours, where I was taking some courses in French. I had wanted to buy the CD then, after listening to his voice full of colors and feelings seen only in your most vivid dreams. I kept swearing to myself that I would buy it, but I let it slip out of my hands. Then I found it here, bringing me back to my "other" home, France. I can't wait to introduce Cabrel to my friends here in America.

An overwheelming album. As a french I do understand why the "words" are so important for the american audience (even if in France we get american songs "without subtitle"), but this musical gem is a must, even if you don't speak a word of molière's language. I felt in love on Cabrel's (and Goldman's) songs - just like Barry Whit's in short - . Beyond the romantic part, the songs are just so great, if you don't understand the lyrics, gimme a mail... but first buy it .... Wait I just play again "cent ans de plus".... God's song, this is (Yoda style)
