3.0 out of 5 stars A Simon Yuen double feature, December 4, 2007
This review is from: Horse Boxing Killer/Against Rascals With Kung Fu (DVD)
Wang Tai Lang (John Liu's little buddy from Fighting Ace) plays the foster father/teacher of a cute young woman who studies kung fu from him. She is told that she is supposed to marry a man she has never met. The story is not really worth going over, so I may as well break down the fights since I haven't done that in awhile. There are plenty of fights, but the first one worth mentioning has Simon Yuen and Wang Kuan Hsiung (aka Champ Wang) getting drunk, and some thieves attack them. They think they have the upperhand attacking drunk guys, but they don't realize that they are dealing with THE drunken master. So Simon Yuen keeps repeating that he is the drunken master, and him, his stunt double, and Wang Kuan Hsiung take care of these guys quite easily. Not a great fight, but some good comedy mixed in. But don't worry, there are much better fights to come.

Next up is Wang Kuan Hsiung vs Lung Fei. Wang Kuan Hsiung gets defeated easily, but it is still a good fight. Lung Fei is so cool in this movie. It gets A LOT better once he shows up.

The next major fight has Wang Tai Lang vs Lung Fei. Its about 4 minutes long, and it is an awesome fight. Wang Tai Lang is doing a lot of flips and other sweet moves, and then Lung Fei pulls out some kind of drunken horse style. You have to see it to believe it!

After Wang Kuan Hsiung does some training, he takes on Lung Fei again for a great final fight.

The movie starts out slow, but these last 3 fights are so awesome that it turns this poor movie into a must see movie for kung fu fans.

I probably didn't explain the movie very well, but any hardcore kung fu fan will be very pleased with this. I first saw this movie about a year ago and I decided to rewatch it so I could do a review. I have been wondering all this time where I have seen Wang Kuan Hsiung before, and it finally hit me. He is the costar of a good little known film called Chase Step by Step. He really gets to show off in this movie. If you are a fan of Lung Fei, Wang Kuan Hsiung, and/or the highly underused actor Wang Tai Lang, then you have to see this. They all perform brilliantly. I have never seen Wang Tai Lang look this good. It is sad that he didn't get more chances to show off his skills the way he does here.

So again, if you are a kung fu fan, definitely check this out (but be sure to read below about the DVD quality).

3.5/5

The picture quality on this Videoasia double sided disc is not bad, but there is somewhat of a blur that affects the action a little bit. It bugged me during the first 30 minutes or so, but I forgot about it by the end. AND HERE IS SOMETHING VERY IMPORTANT TO READ- I heard a lot of people couldn't get this disc to play on their DVD players, but it played fine on my Sony DVP-NS55P. Videoasia DVDs are poorly made. If you don't have at least 3 different DVD players to try this disc out on, then I can't recommend getting this DVD.

The other movie included is called Against Kung Fu Rascals. Simon Yuen gets a lot of screen time, but the story is bad, and only a couple of fights are worth watching. Certainly not one of the worst movies I have ever seen, but not really worth talking about.
