Book Description

August 3, 2006
Horses of all breeds, colors, shapes, and sizes are perennially fascinating to equine enthusiasts of all ages. Collected in a perfect little pocket guide no horse lover will be able to resist, here are images of 96 breeds that call North America home — galloping, playing, grazing, working, or simply striking a pose.

For each breed readers will find a full-page photograph accompanied by at-a-glance conformation and historical facts. A small map shows where the breed originated, and additional information includes the horse’s special qualities and its most common uses. Homegrown favorites such as the Morgan, Appaloosa, and the less-well-known Nakota and Florida Cracker horses are featured along with imported breeds that have influenced native equine bloodlines, such as the Thoroughbred, Arabian, and Percheron.

From the very large (the mighty Shire) to the very small (the tiny Miniature), and everything in between, never has such a range of horse fact and photography been packed into such an appealingly small gift book. This 96-breed survey covers North America’s remarkable diversity of horse breeds, from the popular and well-known to the rare and obscure.

5.0 out of 5 stars unexpectantly interesting, December 4, 2006
This review is from: Horse Breeds of North America (Paperback)
The cover of the book says 96 at a glance profiles, but there are 204 pages, and more than 96 profiles. This is a interesting little book printed on high quality paper with a lot on information for each breed , very easily understood, and read, with some very beautiful horses and pictures, also, very informative.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quick sidebars provide height, description, history, and suitability for potential owners., December 13, 2006
This review is from: Horse Breeds of North America (Paperback)
Similar-sounding books usually have large-size formats and coffee table-like hardcover weight: the joy of Horse Breeds of North America is that it offers up an affordable, easy 96-page photo display in pocket size lending to toting. This means you can take it along on a car ride, trip, or anyplace else a horse might show up. Quick sidebars provide height, description, history, and suitability for potential owners.

5.0 out of 5 stars VERY small book, July 14, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Horse Breeds of North America (Paperback)
this book is nice but VERY small. at 4x6, it's the size of a standard photograph. It is thick (204) pages, but not what I expected. My daughter (she is 7) is obsessed with horses and loves it, I'm glad I was able to buy a used copy for a little over $3. here on Amazon.
