Book Description

Ireland, 1917. Darcy is a light gray Connemara pony with silver dapples. She's fast and tough, whether she's pulling a load of peat from the bog or riding around the rugged countryside with Shannon McKenna, her human family's eldest daughter. But when Mrs. McKenna needs a doctor, Darcy discovers a skill that will change her and her family's life forever. Like Black Beauty, this moving novel is told in first person from the horse's point of view and includes an appendix full of photos and facts about Connemara ponies and Irish history.

    1.0 out of 5 stars Harsh January 1, 2014
    By Jenoa
    Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I was disappointed that a book in this normally gentle series opened with a scene of eagles killing a foal, tearing her up with their talons and running her off a cliff before eating her and filling the air with the smell of her blood. I don't really understand why that was included in a story marketed for animal loving children.

My daughter has enjoyed this series, but a little warning at the change in pace would have been helpful.

This was the last of this series for now, granddaughter wanted the complete set, which we have now completed.
She is a great horselover and has been since she was 3 yrs. old. She reads and rereads these books many times.
Her younger cousin is now beginning to take interest in them as well. This is, in my opinion, a great set for youngsters to read, and has lots of information in each book..

5.0 out of 5 stars Horse Diaries: Darcy May 27, 2013
    Format:Kindle Edition
This book was heat warming and vivid. Having dangerous moments and happy memories. This one has to be one of my favorites, because it really shows and tells how bad things can lead to amazing moments or how something small can do great things. Horse Diaries has made an another amazing book just like Risky Chance.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Darcy December 3, 2013
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is by far the best book in the series. It tells the story of a commarena pony and her hardships and struggles as well as the joy in life. This story is by far the best one by Whitney Sanderson and I would highly encourage anyone with a heart for animals to read this, spirit lifting book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sad and surprisingly happy August 11, 2013
    Format:Kindle Edition
When I think of this book I feel sad, surprised, and amused with lots and lots and lots of more feeling. It starts off tragically but has a super ending. If you like reading about families, you'll enjoy this book. I also am glad it was one of the longest books in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good series August 8, 2013
    Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
My tween daughter loves this series. She LOVES horses so a story from a horse perspective is cool. Reading level is good for a forth/fifth grader. It's past her reading level now, but she still likes the story lines.

If you are horse mad, and possibly not even a child, but love a good read, I totally enjoyed this series and can't wait for the next one to come out. Collect the whole series. For young and the not so old.

I chose this rating because I love when the horses in books "tell their own stories". Also, this author was very descriptive.
