Book Description

October 30, 1996
WHO'S BEATING A DEAD HORSE?
Certainly not die-hard horse aficionado Robin Vaughan. She would never lay a hand on any four-legged creature, least of all the magnificent horse her friend Lola had just received as a Christmas gift.
But Robin suspects that beautiful Noel isn't quite the horse he seems. For one thing he killed his last owner. For another he bears an uncanny resemblance to a horse called Wickie, who haunts Robin's past and whom she knows to be dead. In fact, she'd swear that Noel is Wickie. Can she prove it? She decides to try, and uncovers a scam so far-fetched it can hardly be believed and a villain too repellent to be real. But he's not only real, he's deadly dangerous, and Robin's on a breakneck ride with destiny--toward confrontation, truth, and terminal terror. . . .

4.0 out of 5 stars The last one??? Oh, NO!!!, March 6, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Horse to Die For (Mass Market Paperback)
I read most of this series and enjoyed them all. Robin Vaughan is a delightful character, engaging and very human, and Carolyn Banks's descriptions of the horses' behaviour ring very true to anyone who knows even a little about horses. If this truly is the last in the series, it's a shame -- there are very few horse books for grownups, and I'd hate to lose this series.

This was a disappointment, after reading Death by Dressage. So much time was taken up by the narrator rambling down tracks that lead no where. This was a thin book to begin with, but the entire story could have been told in one chapter. I was really disappointed in this book and would not recommend it for others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ms. Banks Penned a Humorous Mystery That All Ages Can Enjoy!, December 10, 2006

This review is from: A Horse To Die For (Paperback)
When it come to horses and life, Robin Vaughan is an expert on the subject, just ask her. What you find out might amaze and thoroughly hook you on the spot.

Robin is a seasoned horsewoman through and through. She lives a pretty simple life with her husband and horses surrounding her. Her one flaw is that trouble seems to always find her or maybe she just cannot stay out of trouble? When her best friend Lola get a big, gorgeous moving sorrel, something about this horse triggers a memory from the past that leads to nothing but trouble for Robin.

A HORSE TO DIE FOR is by Carolyn Banks. This reviewer has grown up around show horses and could hardly wait to see what Ms. Banks crafted in this humorous mystery. The pages revealed a novel written with true talent and genius incorporating the premise of a woman and one wily horse that just didn't seem to die... Or did it?

Have you ever met a person or had a friend that for some reason seem to be attracted to trouble like a bee to honey? If so, then Robin will be a familiar character you can identify with. Her nose for trouble jumps from one crisis to another. Just when she thinks she has a handle on what is going on, another mystery crops up and off she goes like a wild hare. Open the book to ride along with Robin as her wit and drive to uncover keeps you turning the pages!

This is the first novel by Ms. Banks that this reviewer had the immense pleasure of reading and reviewing and hopes it will not be the last. A HORSE TO DIE FOR is the type of book that has a timeless quality to it, along with having a general audience rating that someone in their early teens and beyond could read and savor. Between the whodunit and the tickling humor, there is not one dull moment in this book. This reviewer highly recommends this wonderful tale of a horse-loving woman and the unbelievable situations she finds herself in time and time again.
