A new side of Willy,
By A Customer
This review is from: Horse of a Different Color (Audio CD)
What a surprise, a new side of Willy.A lot of nice covers but als a set of nice new songs. Willy turned out te be a 'Music Hall' singer. Nice quite songs mixed by more bluesy songs. CD not suitable as background 'wal paper'. You start tot like the CD once you really listened to the songs. Can't wait to see him doing a live gig!

After the big success of backstreet of desire, Willy do an album different, without sax, but you will love this cd, there are good songs, and Willy De Ville is great!

This is a $ 40.00 cd. I had a copy and can't find it. I ordered another copy (that is how good it is !!!!!). DeVille is an astounding tallent who dosen't follow fads and has the highest artistic integrity.

horse of a different color,

it is a great injustice that willy deville was not more popular in america. perhaps it is because his songs represent so many different influences that it is difficult to classify his music. his albums are very difficult to find. this one is very good- i especially like the 1st 3 songs, "bacon fat" and "18 hammers." also see his great live performances on youtube.

I'm a huge Willy/Mink DeVille fan who hopes one day to see the band on tour stateside. The vocal emotion that comes through from DeVille on each release is always a highlight of his albums. "Time to Time" is heartbreaking, and perhaps my favorite DeVille ballad. Called the "leading romantic of the post-new-wave era," I believe one could expand the span of time to include the modern age.
Gypsy Deck of Hearts, Across the Borderline, Lay Me Down Easy, (Don't Want You) Hanging Around My Door: each are individually stunning. This is a great album, and well-worth your effort to track down a copy. I sure hope his latest, Pistola, is released in the states!

Horse of a Different Color is DeVille's 1999 release and is a cover album of traditional black music titles such as Going over the Hill by Fred McDowell and Andre Williams "Bacon Fat". The booklet has two interesting photos of the singer, along with the lyrics and with a small poster of him with a horse. 4/5.
