Loving this album.., August 4, 2005
This review is from: Horse Fabulous (Audio CD)
ok so im the first to review this album, not only that its my very first review too so bear with me....
a national radio station here in the UK featured this album as their album of the week and played tracks each day, i'd previously heard of the stands before but never took much notice of them, needless to say after hearing five tracks one of them being the current single here "when the night falls in" i found myself waiting for the record shop to open at 9am on the day of the release...
its not often that an album has me hooked from first listening but for me with each track it just gets better, now its constantly in my player or its playing on my pc.....
i cant help but think there's a strong 60's feel to some songs especially with "do it like you like" and "soon come" coupled with the harmonies and that Howie's voice just makes me scream John Lennon....
fave tracks ?...well im biased cos i like em all, from the mellow harmony of "i will journey back"...the fabulous foot tapping "when the night falls in" to the superb "you said" where his voice just gives me goosebumps......BUY THIS ALBUM !!!!
down side ?....well the only bad thing for me is that on the import you get two extras tracks that i didnt get.....

HOWIE PAYNE IS A LEGEND WAITING TO HAPPEN, July 4, 2006
John Peel said "Howie Payne is ingenius. Howie Payne is the real thing. At this point in music, it's startling to come across the genuine article." Enough said.

Excellent Sophomore Effort, April 2, 2006
The Stands aren't just another group from Liverpool. A fellow reviewer mentioned lead singer Howie Payne's genius, and I'm very inclined to second that notion. Each song is unique, and each song has a lot of meat on the bones. There's no filler here folks. It's a somber and exciting CD. There's rock, blues, some psychadelic 60's, some folk, and it's all done masterful.
I believe Noel Gallagher once cracked a remark about how kids in the States shouldn't be allowed to buy albums until they turn 16, mentioning the popularity of garbage acts like Britney and Eminem. If you agree in any way with that theory, or if you like real music, (guitars, instruments, talent) you'll enjoy this album. In fact, you'll probably love it.
