Editorial Reviews

Product Description
The follow up to last years debut All Years Leaving recorded in Los Angles with producer Tom Rothrock (best known for his work with Beck and Badly Drawn Boy). HORSE FABULOUS sees the Liverpool four piece return with a more dynamic pop sound and it's eleven songs are without a doubt their most ambitious and infectious to date. Echo. 2005.

5.0 out of 5 stars HOWIE PAYNE IS A LEGEND WAITING TO HAPPEN, July 4, 2006
By drewstinson (london/los angeles) - See all my reviews
John Peel said "Howie Payne is ingenius. Howie Payne is the real thing. At this point in music, it's startling to come across the genuine article." Enough said.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Sophomore Effort , April 2, 2006
The Stands aren't just another group from Liverpool. A fellow reviewer mentioned lead singer Howie Payne's genius, and I'm very inclined to second that notion. Each song is unique, and each song has a lot of meat on the bones. There's no filler here folks. It's a somber and exciting CD. There's rock, blues, some psychadelic 60's, some folk, and it's all done masterful.

I believe Noel Gallagher once cracked a remark about how kids in the States shouldn't be allowed to buy albums until they turn 16, mentioning the popularity of garbage acts like Britney and Eminem. If you agree in any way with that theory, or if you like real music, (guitars, instruments, talent) you'll enjoy this album. In fact, you'll probably love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE STANDS ARE GODS, January 24, 2006
Though the impulse is understandable because of the Stands obvious mastery of homage, it would be a serious crime to mistake Howie Payne's genius for contextualization for mere retro reference. Howie Payne is one of the most brilliant lyricists of his generation, and the Stands second album rings with hard-driven, psychedelic sincerity.

If they had gotten it this right the first time around, there would be no need for the Stands. Fortunately, there is Howie Payne.
