This review is from: Horse and Foal Horse Care Gift Set (Toy)
I purchased two of these gift sets for my 2 daughters as gifts and was upset to see the quality of the items when they arrived. I assumed that because they were Breyer brand (and $20 each) that the quality would be great. We have other Breyer horses and have been satisfied with them and thought these sets would be just as nice. The quality of the accessories is just not what I'd expect from Breyer. The doll and horse don't seem quite up to the standards we've seen in other Breyer products. [...]

This light gray mare is really beautiful with her white markings and soft, blended shading, and the foal is very cute as well. Like all Breyer ponies, these are intentionally made more cheaply than other Breyers so that younger collectors can afford them. Where a Breyer classic alone will cost about $12 retail, here you get an adult horse and baby, rider with a neat outfit, and all the accessories for $20.The foals in these pony sets are so adorable with their big eyes and ears, and many of the adult ponies from this year (2005-2006) are must haves. The palomino pinto set is a great one too, especially if you missed the Little Debbie exclusive pinto that looks similar. I'm an adult collector and have many Breyer classics and ponies, but this dashing mare with her blaze that fades up through the gray face is a special favorite. If you're tired of the lackluster design on similar products like Alpha's Grand Champions, the Breyer Pony line is for you. Breyer designs them very well, making each one unique with markings and details, and they are very affordable.
