This review is from: The Horse, the Handicapped, and the Riding Team in a Therapeutic Riding Program: A Training Manual for Volunteers (Paperback)
Horse the Handicapped, the Riding Team in a Therapeutic Riding Program: A Volunteer Training ManualThis book is in plain english and a must for any RDA. It talks about the TEAM of horse, coach, horse handlers, therpists and of course the riders. It gives a very good insight into the world of what goes on at an RDA which is NOT just pony rides

This review is from: The Horse, the Handicapped, and the Riding Team in a Therapeutic Riding Program: A Training Manual for Volunteers (Paperback)
I've volunteered at a NARHA endorsed center for the last 18 years so I picked this up as a suplement to what I've learned "on the job".While this book is aimed at the niche market of those of us who work at therapeutic riding centers, it is a good resource none the less. There is ample information regarding all aspects of therapeutic riding lessons. There are sections of the book aimed specifically at volunteers; while other sections are geared more towards instructors. Also included are sections on handicaps and how to work with those particular riders as both an instructor and volunteer. As a senior volunteer at my local center, I'm thinking that this book might become required reading for some of my other volunteers who truly love helping but need a little extra reading to reinforce what they are already doing. Now, while the content is very well done, I still find myself cringing while reading for the shear number of grammar, spelling and editing errors. This book may be copyright 1989, but I do believe that the word processing programs of that time did have spell check. Maybe paying a proofreader/editor would have solved part of the problem.
