What a fantastic read! I am highlighting places to see throughout this wonderful and informative book. This is not a typical travel guide, but an enjoyable read with history, elaborate descriptions, suggestions, and more. Based on the informaiton contained within it's pages, I would need several weeks vacation to explore all the wonderful places I have read about. Suggested reading for anyone traveling to the state of Kentucky, or for those who love the history of our wonderful country.

The fields of Kentucky have endless things to offer the lover of horses. "Horse Lover's Guide to Kentucky" is a complete and comprehensive guide for the horse fan in the blue grass state. Kentucky has been called the capital for horses in the world, with the famous Kentucky Derby to its name, but there is more to the state than that. Everything from food and lodging is discussed, making "Horse Lover's Guide to Kentucky" a must for any equine aficionado planning a trip to the state.

This is the easiest read of any guide book I have ever seen. One chapter flows into the next so that you don't want to put it down. There are interesting tidbits that I have never heard even living in Kentucky my whole life. The author makes you feel like you are right there with her. After reading you will probably want to keep this book handy for a reference.

Author Patti Nickell manages to make history enjoyable with her fluid prose and interesting stories. I've lived in Lexington for 32 years and had not heard many of the local tales that she includes with her travel advice. The book is divided into sections and one could easily sit and read it cover to cover (as I did) or hone in on a particular subject or locale. It is obvious that Ms. Nickell did her homework on this one and for Kentuckians, I would recommend keeping a copy on the bedside table of your guest room!

This is truly a great resource for visitors to (and even from) the commonwealth, particularly leading up to the 2010 World Equestrian Games. It's more than just another travel guide, though, it's actually interesting to read. Author Patti Nickell tells fun stories and adds personal touches along the way. Although there's definitely an emphasis on the horse (Kentucky is after all an equestrian hotspot), this type of guide will appeal to any traveller and covers all types of attractions, places to dine, and sites to see.
