'Nothing But Our Love' Music Video

Formed in late 2009, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. is the off-kilter title under which Detroit-area natives Joshua Epstein and Daniel Zott record, release and perform music.

Initially beginning as an exercise in collaboration undertaken with very little intention of ever being publicly consumed, the band’s trajectory has been as unexpected as it has been unlikely. In just a few short ... Read more in Amazon's Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. Store

Editorial Reviews

Product Description

2010 CD EP from the Alt-Rock duo. Embracing a quasi-psych mix of fFolk, Hip Hop, drum programming and effervescent Pop, while still maintaining an emphasis on quality songwriting, Joshua Epstein and Daniel Zott worked from the top down on this EP, using drum machines and samplers, keeping the music danceable, yet not distracting. A harmonious collision, one might say.

...a f***ing brilliant collaboration between two of Detroit s pop maestros. --Detroit Metro Times

Being from the South (and a NASCAR fan), Dale Jr stands for a dynasty of speed. I figured any band gutsy enough to name themselves after NASCAR royalty deserved a listen. But now I can't stop spinning their EP! Their blissed out, dreamy sound and perfectly crafted pop songs sound great on the radio and I can't wait to hear what more they have in store. --KCRW DJ Anne Litt

It's ethereal, minimalist alterna-pop, with a kind of delicate beauty that would vanish like a Post-It note in a tornado as soon as the drivers start their engines. --Yahoo! Sports

First EP by Detroit's Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. is a pretty solid beginning. Opens up with "Nothing But Our Love," probably the highlight of the EP. Slow paced but hard beat in the background with sweet melodic tunes capture you from the beginning. The EP continues with more emphasis on the chorus of the singing duo in "Vocal Chords." This song has a nice pop melody with great vocals. The song takes you for a roller coaster as it goes up and down and all around but never seems to lose the listener. Then we have "Simple Girl," a folky rendition of their slow pop touch. Not going to lie, when I first heard this track I instantly saw influences by the Beatles and Blitzen Trapper. Great mix and a pleasure to listen to. The final track "God Only Knows" is filled echos and a playful guitar. The band goes back to the hard beats in the background. The weak link of the EP but not a bad song. Overall great opening EP and cannot wait for the new full length CD releasing on June 7th.

to make an album these days... Not so easy to make it soothing without being boring. Please don't get caught up on the name of the band! I have a lot of music snob friends that won't touch something with more than two words let alone named after a race car driver BUT this EP is actually fantastic. You don't have to read into anything for this EP. Their harmonies mixed with electronic beats having a calming present, like being on the beach on a sunny day and not so lo fi you can't think (like some bands out there, you know who you are). I'm waiting for more from you Dale Earnhardt Earnhardt Jr!

P.S. - I know i'm a little late from the release date, but how am I the first and only review. C'MON!

Went to see this band in Boise without having heard them before. Gave them a shot based on the great sense of humor implied by their name. The tongue in cheek references to rural American culture--their name, playing shows in racing suits, American flags draped excessively over the stage--is by no means a mockery. It is the kind of nod that comes with being comfortable with where you're from, free to criticize and embrace whats good or what isn't. Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr's comfort with what they're doing comes through beautifully in their live show. They have a presence that exposes the essence of what they're doing. Rather than hiding behind some kind of carefully crafted indie image, they just go balls-to-the wall rockstar and give an over the top presentation that is genuinely moving to an audience member.

Now, all the rigmarole would be for not if it the music couldn't stand on its own. This album proves that it does. Smoothy executed loops layered over live instrumentation and gripping vocal harmonies. Everything that this band did so impressively live was captured in the recording of the Horsepower ep. The gradually intensifying melodies of Nothing But Our Love has refused to leave my head for weeks now. It is feel good music with an irresistible humanistic message of humble love. It' the kind of music that explores the beautiful aspects of being human and takes you with it on the journey. You will not get enough of this song. The E.P. ends with a cover of the Beach Boys 'God Only Knows". This song completely floored the audience when they played it live and its inclusion on the album shows how they aren't afraid of their American roots.
