All riders should read this book!  —Horse Country

From the Publisher

When a horse suddenly develops a performance problem or bad attitude, and neither seem to be remedied by training techniques or medical care, the owner often faces months—even years—of frustration and career limitation. Dr. Joyce Harman, veterinarian and respected saddle–fitting expert, claims that 75 percent of horses with such problems are simply reacting to pain caused by ill–fitting saddles. And, as she explains in this thorough, highly illustrated book, poor saddle fit can be corrected with patience and know–how. Here, she teaches the reader: how to determine if a saddle is sound and properly accommodates both horse and rider; how to individualize saddle fit or find a new saddle appropriate in size and style; and how to treat pre–existing back pain and prevent its future occurrence. Dr. Harman (DVM, MRCVS) owns and operates Harmany Equine Clinic, a holistic, primarily equine veterinary practice in Washington, Virginia.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excelent info, comprehensive, September 5, 2005
This review is from: The Horse's Pain-Free Back and Saddle-Fit Book (Paperback)
This is the most comprehensive book on saddle fitting that I have ever read. Excellent info and very good diagrams and illustrations. Everything is clear and understandable, and there are tests you can do on your own horse to make sure his saddle fits correctly and to check for pain and/or pressure points. Even if you're horse isn't having back problems, this is an excellent resourse that every horse owner or enthusiast should read and use.

4.0 out of 5 stars Full of information, June 12, 2005
This review is from: The Horse's Pain-Free Back and Saddle-Fit Book (Paperback)
I thought this was a very good book. Full of information. The only problem I had with it is she only talks about english saddles. I would still recommend it if you ride western though because there is alot of information that will help you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Clear and Thorough!, November 22, 2006
This review is from: The Horse's Pain-Free Back and Saddle-Fit Book (Paperback)
Great information, tons of pictures, clear concepts...all very helpful in allowing one to consider all aspects of saddle fit (not just width) for both equine and rider. I am shopping for a new saddle for a very big and hard to fit mule, and find this book has given me a lot more confidence in assessing different saddles, including my current one. Highly recommended.
