Light Weight Cable For Stereo Mics With Limitations,
By Rob W. "Sounddude™" (Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hosa XVS101F Right Angle 3.5mm M to XLR F 1 Foot (Electronics)
This adapter cable for stereo mics to work with small DV cameras will function but with caveats.
First, it's construction is pretty light weight. That means you will have to be "gentle" with it when using it. That's something none of us in the broadcast production field want to worry about since our gear gets pretty beat up. Second, the adapter only has a one foot in length cable on it. This is pretty short and may not reach to wherever the mic input jack is on your camera. That means you would need another short XLR mic cable to extend from the mic to this adapter. So just be aware that this may work fine for some and not work at all for others. I went to Sam Ash music and found a similar adapter cable, heavy duty, and with a longer cable for the same price. It pays to shop around!

Bought this for my Canon T2i. Utilizing the magic lantern hack to turn off AGC, I used this with my Azden SGM 2X shotgun mic. Works perfect and great quality.

Connect Shure s58 Microphone to the mic input of my Olympus digital stereo recorder and tried to record a song sung by my daughter, I couldn't hear her voice with volume set to the maximum on the recorder. Only hear noise from the recorder. I don't know if it can be used for other purpose, but it is useless for me.

I purchased this in order to use an Audio Technica AT803 lavalier mic with a Zoom H2 Handy Portable Stereo Recorder. The mic has an XLR output and the recorder a stereo mini mic input. (I would suggest getting a mic with a stereo mini plug for the Zoom or for a digital SLR to avoid this issue of needing an adapter.)
The adapter works just fine. The audio input level is normal, with very low noise, and the adapter works as it should. The short length is perfect for my needs, and the quality of the adapter seems to be fine at not flimsy as others have indicated, though I have yet to use it extensively in the field.

I was excited to use this item to connect a dynamic XLR microphone to my Zoom H1 Handy Portable Digital Recorder, so that I could record from afar using my portable recorder. However, much to my disappointment, when I was doing a sound check using this connection, there was a terrible loud buzzing noise created. I tested out various different configurations, and I couldn't come to any conclusion other than the fact that this connector was creating the problem.. I would not recommend this product at all.

I needed to connect an XLR microphone to a 3.5mm stereo input jack, and this fit the bill perfectly. It's even capable of phantom power, if you need that. Totally recommend.

Used this mic with the Azden SGM 1X plugged into a zoom h2 and the canon t2i. It cut the signal 20db to where it wasn't audible at all but kept the noise level the same. Went to Guitar Center to get an actual adapter that works fine.

Perfect solution for my Canon camcorder,

I got this item to use in conjunction with my Canon camcorder that has a microphone jack. It allows me to use studio-quality microphones with XLR outputs on my 1/8" jack mic input on my camera. It has worked flawlessly the first few weeks that I have owned it. I would like to have seen the cable sheathing be a bit more robust and thicker to better shield the internal wiring, but so far it has worked fine for me without any issues.

I like it it is working fine, but it still picks up interference despite the fact it had built in shielding. It does ok for what it is so i gave it 4 stars.

I have used this cable a couple of times for my camera mounted mic, and it works as expected. Just the right length to reach the ports on the camera. If I run into any problems, I'll update, but as of right now, works great.
