2.0 out of 5 stars Too little information for the dollar.
I bought this with the hopes that it would reveal some "secrets" about host anemones. It did not. The book basically gave some basic anatomy of host anemones, described the natural environment of them, and talked about diet. Dr. Shimek took the aproach that lighting intensity is of little importance, and if I had not been well informed I might have attempted...

Cheaper than an anemone and well worth the read for anyone seriously interested in keeping host anemones.

I bought this with the hopes that it would reveal some "secrets" about host anemones. It did not. The book basically gave some basic anatomy of host anemones, described the natural environment of them, and talked about diet. Dr. Shimek took the aproach that lighting intensity is of little importance, and if I had not been well informed I might have attempted to keep a bubble tip amemone under Normal Output florescent. Twenty five pages for the price is simply not worth it. This was more like an academic paper than anything.

4.0 out of 5 stars good info, could use a little bit more, June 5, 2006
This review is from: Host Sea Anemone Secrets (Paperback)
This book is loaded with good information on keeping anemones, but could use a little bit more specifics.

I bought this book because Ron Shimek is the master of sand beds. He REALLY does know his topic and how to keep a reef. better than any of my local petshop owners!

this book is not his best work.. but just being one of his works gets extra ranks. It has plenty of info for anemone keepers and plenty to expand on.

Every reef keeper should have one or two of Dr Shimeks books kicking around.
