I first heard this album as a album shortly after it was released and have been looking for a copy, CD or MP3 file to download ever since. The band itself put me in touch with Amazon to purchase. This is by far the best release that Rez put out in the eighties. I won't be long winded, but I will say you need this album to complete you Rez collection.

This CD is the highlight of my years as a Resurrection Band, Rez Band, REZ fan. Released at the end of 1984 and features a fantastic combination of heavy & hard hitting drums & guitar driven music with current (then) sound of adding electric drums on some of the tracks. Glen's (guitarist, vocalist) lyric writing is as fantastic as ever and for me one of the highlights is the song "Tears In The Rain." Glen, vocally, lyrically & sonically has outdone himself on this one. "Tears In The Rain" is a great supplemental story to Foreigner's "Juke Box Hero" in my opinion. This CD went all the way to the top of the Christian album chart and for good reason. My tape wore out years ago and I'm glad to finally have it on CD. Every time I play it I think of 1985 (and the "Hostage" tour stop).

This happens to be one of Rez's unpopular albums because of the synthesized music they went with (part of a trend back in the 80's). Despite that I really liked this album. Never owned it, but had borrowed it from a friend.

brilliant creative album from this christian rock band which put out really good albums in the 70's, 80's and 90's. this album 'hostage' has a strong message and very powerful music. some 'rez head's ' (fans of resurrection band ) were 'disappointed' in the
keyboard laden tunes, new wave synth leanings on this album. i wasn't. .... i thot (and still love ) those songs. very creative writing, production, and performance by rez band aka resurrection band aka rez. consider the song 'beyond the gun' , a song written from a mans perspective --as he poses the thoughts in his heart ---before making an attempt to "go over the berlin wall". of course, this is dated lyrical material by now, but none the less, brilliant song writing. wendi kaiser puts some real guts into some of the 'more metal-ish' tunes like 'crimes'. (a great video came out with that tune, which received, radio airplay on mtv . being a guitarist (and fan of stu heiss ) ..i thot mr heiss's guitar playing on this album was intense and well played on every song ! the solos are just as tight (if not tighter ) than on other albums that followed this one (such as 'between heaven and hell'. ) but you should buy that record too, for their hit 'love comes down' and 'shadows'. Jesus rocks when Rez rolls in.another great album is 'lament' . if you cant get any of these, pick up their boxed set. well worth the musical investment. on a closing note: dear grrr records ...plz ...plz....re-release 'hostage' on cd. its a great album. God bless, tw
