but were apparently no match for the Mayan Calendar.

My haiku to you
Hostess Twinkies poetry
five seven and five

.......

Twinkies my sweet treat
No good for my thighs or heart
yet how I love you

artificial dye
cake and filling made of these
sugar lard and salt

Twinkies pass my lips
comfort from eating a treat
nevermore my joy

Sigh. Maybe they can be saved by the Bimbo company. There's a joke in there somewhere.

Seriously, they have no redeeming value other than an allegedly long shelf life (remember Wall-E), but it's sad to see them go. And, on a more serious note, if anyone is actually planning on buying these on Amazon, do note that it is coming from an independent/partner vendor so look at price and shipping fees closely, and do your due diligence in researching the seller's ratings. The vendor of today may not be the one of tomorrow, so do read the fine print!

Now, do I buy these now or wait to see if the Twinkie is rescued by another corporation...decisions, decisions...

EDITED TO ADD: YIKES....when I first saw this listing it was around about seventy, then as I posted it the price is almost 7 times that! Like I said...read the listing CAREFULLY before buying as the vendor has changed up. Just sayin'

In a now Twinkie-less world, everyone's starting to crave these delicious yellow sponges. The price may seem a bit much at first, but it's a bargain compared to people selling a box of 10 for like $20. I was a little skeptical at first since people are being Twinkie scammed by other sellers, but I took a risk and got what I paid for. If you want to eat one of the best snacks ever to exist for at least 100 more times, go for it!

i hate how everybody thinks twinkles last forever its NOT TRUE. I tested this myself a few years back.i bought a box of twinkles and let them sit in the pantry
for about 2 years and then opened em up. they looked fine but when i took them out they were rock hard!!!

(UPDATE: Apparently not everyone who read this review understood it was tongue-in-cheek....)

There is no better survival food than an authentic Hostess Twinkie. But $70 for 100 Twinkies? That's $.70 per Twinkie (roughly $.35 per bite!).

Who, especially in these rough economic times, can afford that? Now if they mean $70 for 10 BOXES, I'm ALL IN!

But then again, since Hostess is declaring bankruptcy*, Twinkies may not be around for long. So if you're looking for the perfect gourmet food, one that will last 10,000 years and survive nuclear holocausts, maybe $70 is not too high a price to pay.

* (The following is not tongue-in-cheek. See WSJ (Wall Street Journal), etc.) In an apparent case of you can't have your cake and eat it too, the 5K-member bakers union at Hostess would not agree to wage and benefits concessions to keep the company going resulting in Hostess Brands Inc. going over the fiscal cliff. As a result, the entire 18,500 member Hostess Brands work force is (or will shortly be) out of work.
