As a born again believer, a follower of Jesus Christ there is one thing that should always be at the forefront of our relationship with Jesus and that is His presence. You find that in this christian walk there are so many things to do for Jesus but the main thing is not doing it's being. Hosting His Presence is about us carrying His presence and understanding what this is. This book by far is the best that Bill has written. God's presence is what we are after. Being surrounded with Him is the utmost number one important thing in a Christians walk. This book draws you into knowing God. It is inspiring and contagious.

Like a skilled photographer, who when taking a picture of a vast landscape draws our focus to a specific point of beauty, Pastor Bill Johnson has penned a work that describes and illuminates the glorious focal point of the Christian way of life; hosting the presence of God. This book will birth within you an unquenchable hunger to host God's presence. More than once I found myself under the power of the Holy Spirit as I earnestly searched through its pages knowing that I was being taken on a journey that would change me forever. As I finished the last page several hours ago I realized that this is a book I will re-read many times. It is that powerful. Get a copy and read it. Your life will be changed as you learn what it means to host the presence of God. Prepare to fall in love with God all over again. There is a passionate message describing His desire to be in relationship with you written within the pages of this book. I don't know how to describe it any better. As I read this book, I felt the presence of God. Read it and you will see what I mean.

I didn't understand the passage of Ephesians 3:19 until this book. I had to stop my reading, in awe of the fact that something actually existed that surpassed knowledge. I love the accounts of Bible figures and the Presence of God upon them, and I love knowing that the same Presence is available for me today. And I regret any day that passes where I did not recognize and embrace His Presence. This is my favorite of Bill Johnson's books so far.

We live in an information-rich society. Our churches reflect the same theme: Information. The trouble is, God reveals Himself to us in revelation and personal experience. In fact, He hides from the lukewarm and the scoffer, while revealing Himself to the "dirty rotten sinner" who is seeking Him with their whole heart. Pastor Bill Johnson hits the nail on the head just as King David did by seeking with all his heart "the one thing." What is that "one thing?" It is hosting the presence of God. (Psalm 27:4)

With no apology or excuses I say that Jesus was fully man, and depended on God fully for everything He did and everything he said....just like you and me. The Last days will become an enlightenment of grace and the Father's love. For that to tke place, we desperately need "the one thing: God's presence. If this book is not a foundational work for every member in every church, then what is? You have heard that "overcoming sin is the principle thing." Hosting His presence is how that happens! You have heard it said "We need to overcome fear in these perilous times." Hosting His presence is how it happens! You have heard it said "We need personal and national repentance and miraculous breakthroughs!" Hosting His presence is how it happens.

Someone once said: "I don't care where you go. I don't care what you do. I only want to be with you." THAT is "the one thing." According to Psalm 22:3, God inhabits the praises of His believers. Pastor Bill reminds us that Derek Prince said: "If I have 10 minutes in prayer, 8 minutes should be in worship." How humbled I am, and how right he is. Bill will take paper and a pen with him during his prayer time to write down impressions of what Holy Spirit is saying to him. Why bother? Because when you really really really love someone, you treasure everything about them, including every word spoken to you; more than the food on your table or the bed you sleep on.

No wonder Bill Johnson's life has impacted so many. He focuses on "the one thing", hosting the presence of the One who would do anything to to bring him home to marry him, even if it including surrendering His life. "THE ONE THING." It's how our heavenly Father feels about you and me. If you decide to hunger for "the one thing", your touched life can change the atmosphere over this country and the world. Hosting His presence is that important.

There's nothing like a visit with your Heavenly Father. He is always there always ready to comfort always ready to give you peace. This wonderful book explains how much Father loves you, how Jesus has shown the way to peace and has given it to each of us if we ask. On my Kindle I've highlighted so much of the book the pages are quite yellow! This makes it easy for me to go back and read the parts that were most important to me. Chapter 9 is my favorite where Mr. Johnson tells us how to host the Presence of God. And oh my! What a difference this has made in my life, knowing I can ask God to be with me in His Manifest Presence - to know in my emotions that He is with me, here and now.

Not only did I read the book, Hosting The Presence, several times, I taught the Wednesday night class at my church on this book for three months. I ordered over 25 books from Amazon for the class. My wife was so blessed and encouraged by this book and the class that she actually had an encounter with Jesus and was healed of depression, acid reflux, migraines, allergies, and Meniere's Disease immediately! My wife is a new person and the book was a catalyst in her transformation. The author, Bill Johnson, devoted at least half of the book to Bible stories of people who had encounters with God, especially in the Old Testament. Moses and David were two of the examples covered who pursued the presence of God daily. Near the end of the book, the author recounted his encounter with Jesus in the middle of the night that changed his life forever. Other recent and current encounters with Jesus by hungry people were mentioned in the last chapter. This is a powerful book and will inspire you to believe that you can host the presence of God every single day for the rest of your life.

This book is about the Presence of God and the importance of hosting His Presence as New Testament believers. Bill Johnson wrote this book to emphasis the importance of the Spirit of God in the lives of every believer. The main point of this book would be to emphasis the importance of the access we have to the Presence of God and bringing the Presence of the Holy Spirit into any and every situation. As priests under a new covenant, Bill emphasizes the importance of the access that we have through Jesus Christ. The problem Bill is trying to fix is the powerless and mundane Christian walk outside of the Presence of God. Without the Presence we live outside of communion and don’t allow ourselves access to all that Jesus Christ died for. On page 62. Bill mentions that “Jesus’ death made it possible to not only come into the Presence of God daily, but for the Presence of God to come into us permanently.” We have access to the Presence today that only a few people had access to before Jesus Christ. This book points to the importance of the Presence and hosting His Presence in such a way that it shifts atmospheres and lives around us on a personal and corporate level. This is the assignment we as Christians were born for, to host His Presence.

Outline of the book:

1.)Hosting the Presence as the ultimate assignment to man.
Bill breaks this down as our ultimate task here on earth. To position ourselves as vessels that the very Presence of God can reside in. This is our ultimate assignment as Bill says there is no greater privilege than to host the Presence of God and likewise no greater responsibility.

2.)We are destined to rule!
Adam and Eve and the rest of mankind were created to rule on earth like God. We were given dominion over everything and were commissioned to represent God. The fall separated man from God but didn’t change our purpose of bringing order and rest to the planet.

3.)Presence and the importance of worship.
David had access to the Presence through his intercession and worship unto the Lord. Bill makes two profound points in that each generation builds on top of what the previous generation has done, and we always become like the one we worship. David had the ability to access the Presence from the new covenant because of his ability to enter the Presence in worship. We have access to the throne room of God through our worship, God responds to His people when we praise Him and His Presence is what comes.

1.) What we have access to.
One of the strengths of this book is really emphasizing what we have access to as new covenant Christians. Through what Jesus did on the cross we have access to all that the priests had in the old testament because we are priests ourselves. Through the blood Christ didn’t just redeem us from sin and death but He gave us access to the Presence of God and restored us back into who we were created to be from the very beginning before the fall. This is imperative as knowing who we are in Christ and what we have access allows us to boldly enter into the Presence of God and allow Him to rest on us in our lives. Amazing to know that we as new covenant Christians have access to what many prophets prophesied and desired to have access to. This book stresses knowing who we are and appreciating and cultivating the Presence in our lives.
2.) Jesus is perfect theology
I was born again-again last year at power and love with Dan Mohler and Todd White. It was like hearing the simplicity of the gospel and the finished work of the cross for the first time. It was then originally that I learned the Jesus was perfect theology but just recently realized Todd White accredits this to Bill Johnson. Jesus is perfect theology and looking at this book, the Presence, and anything in ministry outside of that is just ludicrous. Jesus is the standard and the only standard to follow. Jesus healed all the sick who he came in contact with, the Spirit of God rested on Him like a dove, and we have access to what He had access to. I agree with what Bill says to start off chapter 8, he says “What you think you know about God that cannot be found in the person of Jesus, you have reason to question.”

Weaknesses:
1.) Bill mentions on page 44. That “If I have a power encounter with God, which we are required to pursue, then I am equipped to give it away to others.” I’m not sure if I agree with that required pursuit. Although I agree that we should give away what gives us, I’m not sure if it’s the desire of all people to have such encounters with God. Although I’m fully convinced people should have these encounters through my experience a lot of Christians don’t want them. It would be interesting if God did require us to pursue these encounters however I think that because our hearts choose them He gives them to us. It’s all about the heart and the heart of God I don’t think demands this although He wants His children to have access to Him.

2.) Bill talks about his ability to enter the Presence with pen and paper as God speaks to him about his tasks that need accomplished throughout the day and meetings etc. From my experience I haven’t been able to separate what really is from God and what is just in my wandering mind dude to things I need to get done. Although I understand what he is saying at this point in my life I don’t quite agree as I don’t know if that is accessable to me right now. I’m trying to take 10+ minutes of silence with God everyday to listen not ask him what needs to get done. I’d like to be able to do what Bill talks about but right now I have to disagree that this is for everyone until my experience matches up with Bill is saying here.

An amazing book on such a deep, yet beautifully simple topic. The Holy Spirit power is readily available to overtake us if we are willing. Provides great insight on how to pursue the Holy Spirit and to cultivate a lasting, unique relationship with it.
