Editorial Reviews

To support her family in their cross-country travels, Annie Caldash (Jane Russell) arranges to marry wealthy gypsies before absconding with their money and moving on to the next town. When the Caldash clan arrives in Los Angeles, the local gypsy king, Marco Torino (Luther Adler), introduces Annie to his handsome, younger brother, Stephano (Cornel Wilde). When Annie abandons her wedding scam to marry him for real, the freedom-loving Stephano skips town. Yet, upon his return, Stephano and Marco end up fighting over Annie. So, when he replaces his brother as king, Stephano grants Annie an annulment so he can formally ask her to be his bride. Newly remastered.

This is a typical romantic pic with Lots of fighting, romance and lovers quarrels but nothing really special except Jane Russell herself.

Nick Ray was one of the pioneers of widescreen and the film was shot in Cinemascope (and it screams it on the package). Why do this? Only film buffs and Nicholas Ray enthusiasts would have an interest in the title. And they would know that this isn't the way to present the film. Shame.
