Billy Idol burst on the music scene back in the early `80s with an odd mix of punk and dance styles that earned him many fans but the ridicule of many purists. I'm sure that poor Billy cried all the way to the bank where he deposited the millions he made spinning hit after hit. While "White Wedding" is the song that most people remember making him a star, it's actually "Hot In The City" that was his first single and it did pretty well climbing up to number 23 on the charts (interestingly, "White Wedding" only made it to 36).While I enjoyed a number of his songs at the time, I find that "Hot In The City" holds up better than most. It has a simple, bouncy beat that is infectious and prone to induce the tapping of toes, fingers, etc. Idol sounds like he's having a good time as he belts out the words. This song is nothing fancy, just a good catchy tune that's fun to listen to. In my book that makes it an easy buy, especially at the price of less than a dollar for an unrestricted mp3 file.
