5.0 out of 5 stars "Jazz & Blues lovers lost treasures ~ Hot Club de France", March 29, 2005
This review is from: Hot Club De France (Audio CD)
This is a dream come true, previously unreleased recordings of some of the greatest entertainers, human beings and the originators of pop music as we know it today...Louis Armstrong, along with Satch is Jean Peron Garvanoff, Francois Melchioro, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Willie "The Lion" Smith, Jewell Brown, New Orleans Dippers, Bill Coleman and the New Orleans Dippers and Memphis Slim as they took Paris by storm...Jazz Lovers came from all over to enjoy "Hot Club de France", sample the tracks that were mastered and digitally restored by Nancy Matter at Moonlight Mastering...you too can enjoy those never-to-be-forgotten performances.

Milan Entertainment and friends present "Hot Club de France", featuring the live performances of the one and only Louis(Satchmo Pops)Armstrong and fellow Jazz & Blues artists from the early '60s into the '80s...captures the essence of their talent and the world has embraced the legacy of Hot Club de France.

In alphabetical order and with an all-star guest cast are the 12 selections:

ALL ON ONE BOOGIE (December 2, 1980) (Memphis Slim)
BLUEBERRY HILL (May 17, 1962) (Louis Armstrong, Billy Kyle, Trummy Young, Joe Darensbourg, Billy Cronk, Dany Barcelona)
ECHOES OF SPRING (1965) (Willie "The Lion" Smith)
I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT YOU'RE IN LOVE WITH ME (July 8, 1971) (New Orleans Dippers)
GEORGIA ON MY MIND (May 17, 1962) (Louis Armstrong/Jewell Brown)
GO AHEAD (1966) (Sister Rosetta Tharpe)
NOBODY KNOWS THE TROUBLES I'VE SEEN (1966) (Sister Rosetta Tharpe)
PLEASE DON'T TALK ABOUT ME WHEN I'M GONE (December 8, 1974) (Bill Coleman & New Orleans Dippers)
SAINT LOUIS BLUES (May 17.1962) (Louis Armstrong with Jewell Brown)
SCOTTISH BOOGIE (December 8, 1974) (Garvanoff/Melchioro)
SWEET LORRAINE (July 8, 1971) (New Orleans Dippers)
TEA FOR TWO (1965) (Willie "The Lion" Smith)

Armstrong and his group of players were always on a diplomatic mission whether it was realized or not...this in no way dampened Satchmo's usual jovial behavior, nor did it stifle his legendary and natural spontaneity, as is so brilliantly heard on this exuberant performance. Once again, Pops shows every angle of his wonderful talent, always exuding intense emotion whether it be joy ("BLUEBERRY HILL"), or the swingin' ("SAINT LOUIS BLUES"). Louie is ever present on these pieces, but nonetheless he gives way to his fellow-musicians Billy Kyle (piano), Joe Darensbourg (clarinet), Trummy Young (trombone), Billy Cronk (bass), Dany Barcelona (percussion) and his longtime friend and vocalist Jewell Brown.

Relive those days with Satchmo playing the blues, jazz and his ever-famous-standards that you long to hear. Know that Pops is up there at those golden gates playing duets with St. Gabriel...they'll never be another, he was an original - SATCHMO!

Total Time: 48:00 on 12 Tracks ~ Milan Records 36114 ~ (3/29/2005)
