4.0 out of 5 stars Good cd, same sounds, December 26, 1999
By A Customer
"Hot Coko" is a good debut from former SWV lead vocalist Coko. The album offers traditional R&B tracks such as "Bigger Than We" and "Everytime" and nice fast uptempo songs like "Triflin'" and "Don't Take Your Love Away". Although some of the songs are quite original, they still have similar topics like most songs, but despite the repetition, it is still a good album. Coko has great vocals and nice production, most of which provided by super-producer Rodney Jerkins. If you're looking for a nice R&B album, then "Hot Coko" is a good choice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overlooked and Underrated., November 25, 2002
When Coko's solo debut, "Hot Coko," was released in the summer of 1999, it was all but ignored by the very listeners who made SWV's three studio albums platinum successes. That's rather strange, since this is an overall solid album that has as much bang as any of Coko's hits with the now-defunct all-girl group. With production from Rodney Jerkins and Brian Alexander Morgan, "Hot Coko" delivers a fine mix of contemporary r&b. The hit single "Sunshine" is an upbeat love song produced by Jerkins, while Eve hops on as a guest for "Trifilin'." And Coko makes her feelings abundantly clear to a soon-to-be-ex in "I Ain't Feelin' You." There are a couple ballads that drag along, failing to come up with a slow jam as winning as 1993's "Weak." Still, this disc deserves a second chance to be heard. It won't change the future of r&b, but it's a lot better than much of the slicked-up dreck that often clogs up the airwaves.

5.0 out of 5 stars True R&B, February 17, 2000
By A Customer
I think that this is a very well thought out album. Of course, it does not have all the catchy beats and crazy lyrics for those into the groups like Destiny's Child, but what it does have is a very talented artist. Coko brings out the real R&B in music. That's what she has always done. Her voice is good enough to carry the album without the wild beats. I garuntee that you will be singing these songs all day once you hear the album. Get it! It's hot!
