Biography

There has never been and may never be again a bluesman quite like Albert Collins. "The Master Of The Telecaster" was born on October 1, 1932, in Leona, Texas. A cousin of the legendary Lightnin' Hopkins, Collins emerged with a blues sound and style all his own, featuring a combination of icy echo, shattering, ringing, sustained high notes, an ultra-percussive right-hand attack, and an unheard-of… Read more in Amazon's Albert Collins Store

3.0 out of 5 stars Don't Mistake This For "The Cool Sound Of...", April 19, 2010

This review is from: The Hot Cool Sound Of Albert Collins (Audio CD)
I'm writing this to respond to a previous review who mentioned a Robben Ford recommendation on one of his DVDs. This isn't the album he was talking about. The album he recommended is called "The Cool Sound Of Albert Collins", not The HOT Cool Sound..."

"The Cool Sound Of Albert Collins" is one of Albert's greatest records (if not THE best). It's a studio album, not live. It was out-of-print for a long time, but was re-released in the early 90's as "Truckin' With Albert Collins". It's the exact same recording, no idea why they changed the title to something that lame. If you're an Albert C. maniac, this is the one to get. AWESOME record. Never loved the Alligator stuff as the production was too clean.

This record is clearly a bootleg from a live show. Terrible sound quality, but Albert is playing some smokin' stuff. Worth checking out if you're a player or a huge fan. And remember, this isn't the record Robben Ford recommends. He's talking about what is now titled "Truckin' With Albert Collins".

I saw Albert at a club called Desperado's in Georgetown, D.C. in the early 80's. He had his 100 foot cord, and at one point in the show he walked outside into the middle of M Street and just burned. Still one of the greatest concerts I've ever seen. We miss ya, man.

3.0 out of 5 stars Albert Collins, December 26, 2008

I bought this on watching a Robben Ford tutorial DVD, he claimed that this is the "best" blues guitar CD ever. Well Robben, while I love your playing, your "taste" is questionable. Yes, great guitar playing but the SOUND...sheeeeeesh....recorded live and sounds it....mushed, grungy, no detail. I would only give this a 1 star, but the man himself and his playing deserves better, so it rates a 3.

Groovy stuff, nice live atmosphere. Wouldn't play in the car but plays ok on my home stereo CD player.
