4.0 out of 5 stars Thought provoking with positive outcome.
I highly recommend the book. For one think, try drinking soda without ice, you will not. That alone is worth the cover price and then some. Very innovative concept and very different from all other diet books. Hot Diet suggestions and recommendations do not have a down side. Very innovative concept and very different from all other diet books. Hot Diet suggestions and recommendations do not have a down side. Innovation does not necessarliy follow great deal of scientific research by large corporations every time. There are the Eureka moments and discoveries large and small we need to share with others. I thank the author AJ for sharing and congratulate him in fighting back cancer. I hope AJ will continue to share and promote his concepts. God Bless You.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great scientic information and re-enforcement on the basics, February 27, 2011
This review is from: The Hot Diet: The Real Reason You're Gaining Weight . . . and How to Lose It Fast and Forever (Hardcover)
I have read all the diet books and really appreciated the scientific information and the story telling. AJ re-enforces the basics of course, like exercise and water and people need re-enforcement. I love the delivery of the story and the important information that supports what is necessary for an ideal size and weight as well as vitality. I will recommend this book to all of my clients.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot Diet, July 24, 2007
This review is from: The Hot Diet: The Real Reason You're Gaining Weight . . . and How to Lose It Fast and Forever (Hardcover)
I purchased "The Hot Diet" about a week ago and quite enjoyed the book. While bringing to light a unique nutritional facet, A.J. Djo reminds us of the importance of caring for ourselves in a complete manner. It can never be said enough.. We are what we eat.

I believe the five principles, A.J. outlines, to be a solid life improving foundation from which we can all benefit.

I just finished the 'Hot Diet' and want to recommend it to all. It has really given me a wake up call, in a world gone mad, as far as diet fads. Boy, the lengths we will go! Smoking, diet pills or ??
Great book for summer and easy read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Diet and spirituality, July 30, 2007
This review is from: The Hot Diet: The Real Reason You're Gaining Weight . . . and How to Lose It Fast and Forever (Hardcover)
What a nice practical theory-chemical reaction applied to real life.
I especially enjoyed the part of the book when spirituality comes into play-that sets it apart from other diet books. I truly enjoyed reading the hot diet book- gives you a sense of serenity and peace. It enlightens the reader about being appreciative and observant!
I recommend it to all my patients, coworkers, family and friends.
Great work A.J.

5.0 out of 5 stars Addresses the Practical and the Spiritual, July 13, 2007
This review is from: The Hot Diet: The Real Reason You're Gaining Weight . . . and How to Lose It Fast and Forever (Hardcover)
I purchased this book on 5 July at a Barnes and Noble. First let me say I'm glad I did. The scientific revelations explained in the book seemed to make sense to me intuitively so I tried the diet. The result is the loss of over 10lbs as of this writing.
My intuition proved to be correct when I discussed AJ's principals with a friend of mine who teaches University level Anatomy and Physiology. He said the principals are correct.
In addition to the diet tips, I found the "storytelling" style entertaining and amusing, especially the references to AJ's encounter with President Reagan. An excellent read!!

I bought this book from a Barnes & Noble and started reading it, the title intrigued me and I could certainly use to lose some weight. This book turned out to be a joke ... on me, I guess. The first two chapters are almost entirely fluff, with large sections written in the first person but with confusion as to which person - AJ Djo or the professional writer / marketer he is working with. I am not kidding here, sections written in the first person switch between the two individuals with no indication as to whom is speaking!

After two chapters of fluff and unamusing anecdotes, the 'secret' is finally revealed in the third chapter. "It's ice!" Yes, the theory put forward is that drinking something cold while eating food hampers digestion and leads to weight gain. There, I just saved you cover price!

Of course, after that "revelation" the book goes on to advocate healthy eating and increased exercise - how innovative! Not. Oh, and what scientific study is this based on? None. It's based on 104,000 people that AJ Djo claims to have observed, while they ate and he took notes. See, that's how he noticed the pattern ... the obese often drank beverages with ice while eating ... thus the relationship!

I think the book sucks, you may not. You may find the explanation of endothermic and exothermic chemical reactions and a strained metaphor of how digestion is like a wood fire, useful. If so, then go ahead and add this book to your diet book collection. If not, then save your money.

The author's suggestions are all the things you've heard before to help you lose weight with one exception. That except is to avoid ice in your diet and drinks. Coincidentally there are other authors that claim the exact opposite of this, i.e. that the body burns more calories because it has to warm the ice and cold drinks so you actually get a slight boost in weight loss from the metabolic effect of the ice.

There's nothing exceptionally hot or all that interesting about this so called Hot Diet.

1.0 out of 5 stars The Author Needs To Stick With Being A Chemical Engineer, July 12, 2007
This review is from: The Hot Diet: The Real Reason You're Gaining Weight . . . and How to Lose It Fast and Forever (Hardcover)
I reviewed this book and found that huge assumptions were being made by the author. He is correct - eating foods such as ice or very cold foods that are lower than the temperature of the digestive tract causes stress on the tract and can hamper digestion and subsequently affect health; the multitude of health problems he associates with this is poorly referenced and the links inadequately explained.

He does add that there are other factors that affect health, such as exercise. This needs to be better followed up in the text to be of any use to readers. The major problem with obesity and health problems are people's beliefs, lack of self-responsibility for their health, and how they subsequently respond to life's daily challenges they label as being stressful. When people feel stressed, they fail to eat, sleep, hydrate, exercise and relax enough - then they get ill - period.
